Project 2025 is the policy platform that the GOP wants to run on in 2024. In short, it's a huge expansion of the powers of the Presidency. My question is simple. If this is such a great idea, why not do it now? No reason not to give those powers to the current President, right?
Project 2025 proposes to put the President directly in charge of traditionally independent executive agencies like the Dept of Justice, the Federal Election Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Federal Communications Commission. The theory is that the American people elected the President as the Executive, and the duly-elected President should be able to run the Executive Branch as they see fit. If that's such a great idea, let's do it now. Introduce the bill and whip some votes.

This guy is depicting King George III, the king of England at the time of the American Revolution. He was a powerful, unitary executive. This was exactly what the US Founding Fathers rebelled against, and for good reason. Instead, we developed a system of checks and balances to thwart government overreach and protect the freedoms of we the people.
Know this. Project 2025 is not about a good-faith dispute over the role of the Presidency in our government. We know this because the Republicans in Congress have not and will not introduce their Project 2025 bill until and unless their party successfully wins the Presidency. These aren't powers for the President, they're powers for Donald Trump or another wanna-be dictator from their own party.
Vote.org. Register to vote, familiarize yourself with voting laws and practices in your state/jurisdiction, and be ready to cast your vote on or before Election Day, November 5, 2024.

Not to be THAT guy, but George III was absolutely NOT an absolute monarch. He was in fact one of the most legally constrained monarchs of the period, significantly dependent on parliament. While he could push for certain policies, he was very much legally constrained in his powers. A better contemporary to compare Trump to is the Russian Empress Catherine, but frankly, I think I can speak for all of us and say we do NOT need the edit of Trump in a dress...

to join you in not being that guy but... tbf the "whole" point of the revolution was that proud, loyal british subjects who happened to live across the atlantic weren't being treated as british subjects and what rights they were entitled to under british law. which is a huge theme of how colonial nations (even the settlers themselves) were treated by their colonializing nations.

But the constitution specifically divides the 3 branches Executive, judicial and legislative. They’re purposely and explicitly divided with one not having power over another. How the fuck is this an actual proposition. They are blaring their fascism only short of literally saying I’m a Nazi. Well not all of them. I can’t believe this is the country I was born in. I’m terrified of the future.

Ah, but you see, the Constitution did not create the role for the courts that now exists. SCOTUS created that for itself in Marbury v. Madison, which is why now the courts have power over the other two branches while being subject to no meaningful checks or balances. Hence, power is now divided however our black-robed masters decide it is.

But I can’t see this NOT being challenged for its constitutionality which would go to the Supreme Court. Who are at the top of the judicial branch. I can’t imagine they’d rule to give their power away to the president/executive over them. No matter liberal or conservative. Even to other conservatives, it doesn’t make sense for the Supreme Court to voluntarily cede control.

They wouldn't be giving their power away. The Pres would have power over the executive, and they'd retain their power over the Pres. He could do whatever he wanted with the exec, as long as they decided it was "Constitutional".

If you don't think the Court is perfectly ready to loophole their way around any pesky "precedents" set by their "do whatever we want today" attitude, I recommend reading the decisions on Bush v. Gore. These are lawyers; there's always a way.
