I fucking hate working out! I do it 5 times a week but bitch and whine internally the entire time. And then I play Beat Saber. I havent played in a few days and my shoulders are killing me! Im also getting older...
Just want to put out there that every YMCA offers financial assistance for those who need it, so it can be a great option for a cheap gym, as well as a place to shower. Lots of them also have saunas and hot tubs. Just go to their website or front desk and ask for membership support paperwork
That was me when I realized what contracting muscles during a plank is supposed to feel like and that you shouldn't try to pull yourself up on crunches through momentum or try to pull your head.
A thing I learned after struggling with lower back pain was that it had nothing to do with my lower back. It was hips, core, butt. Actually a lot of pain isn't actually to do with the parts that hurt. Body mechanics are crazy
lots of youtubes and google searches. Specifically 'anterior pelvic tilt' Basically your core and your butt pull at opposite ends of each other to help you stand up straight. If there's an imbalance itll make you want to lean forward. A combination of stretches and strength exercises of the appropriate muscles will fix this. Try it!
Congrats @op!!! I did the same thing but my life really changed when I started a hip strengthening and flexibility program. Almost all of my chronic back and lower body pain evaporated within two weeks.
There’s a fitness app for golf called Golf Forever, but the exercises are Pilates-based. The exercises are super low impact and short in duration but it’s the type of exercises and movements people don’t normally do (diagonals , Myofascial release, balance drills). They preach foam rolling, particularly the glutes/hips because tight hips fuck up your whole kinetic chain. Just foam rolling got rid of a lot of foot and back pain for me. 5/7 recommend doing it even if you don’t golf.
if you have low back pain, learn to stretch out your hips! once your front hip muscles loosen up your back muscles can work less because you're not pulled forward as tightly. i do it every day to get out of bed it changed my life.
Yep. And it doesn't even have to be anything in particular; the most important thing is consistency. Just 15-30 minutes a day makes the rest of the day so much more comfortable.
I've been trying to just get out and move more recently. I realized I was making progress when I stopped grunting every time I got in and out of the car.
Put your shoes on and tie them while standing on one foot. Untie your shoes and take them off while standing, and without bending your knees. Super small thing that strengthens balance and stretches your muscles.
This is the same thing that happened to me except it only took about 9 days.
I'll be back to walking 8 mi a day in no time, and if I can stick to my diet I'm going kiteboarding again at 52. There's still good in this world, Mr. Frodo
Not quite two years ago I changed to a job that was primarily a desk job. Before that, for over 20 years i had only jobs that I was on my feet, constantly moving, and lifting boxes. I notice how much my body has changed now that I don’t have 8-10 hours of being on my feet and moving heavy boxes every day. I don’t like it!
Back in 2000 I took my first desk job after 10 years of doing cable installation. The company I worked at had a magnificent deli about 50 feet away. After having been rail-thin my whole life within a few months I had to wiggle to get my buttcheeks between the arms of my office chair. Yeesh.
Yeah, I have to say that it sucks that desk jobs destroy your body. I have been struggling to keep energy to do both my job and work out, and I basically have to choose one or the other until I do better with working out. My illnesses at times keep me from task switching or transitioning home, and I know my commute doesn’t help, so I need support with others doing it with me especially to start it back up and decrease my fatigue over time. It has to be in person, too, online doesn’t work T.T
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWKNXNY @op, I recently bought this thing for my sensory kids to help regulate, but found myself using it and it really helped me too. I like that it's almost like a game to see how long I can get it to stabilize.
Let me piggyback on this, whoever has back issues, watch this video, it might be that you have been standing on your heels your whole life; https://youtu.be/MW_6PGizavY This, combined with a standing desk + fatigue mat, swimming and gym, have all but solved all my back issues (bulging disc, sciatica). Don't do stretches for back pain (ESPECIALLY DON'T DO THE PIRIFORMIS STRETCH), do mobility poses like Cat/Cow and Bird/Dog pose.
SLEEP WITH A PILLOW BETWEEN YOUR KNEES OR ON YOUR BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR0yV_3DfBo it took me a few tries on some of the excercises to feel like i was doing it right. for the side ones, pretend your hip is being pulled up by a string, and for the leg extendy arm extendy one pretend a tray of grandmas fine china and glasses is on your hips i was told in a different video
ive been doing it (trying to with some motivation issues sometimes) monday wednesday and friday before work (my fiances alarm has me up 3 hours before im to be clocked in for work so i started doing it with the time i had just laying in bed unable to get back to sleep. eventually gonna try to go to 5 days a week
If you have a chance to go swimming a couple times per week, it will save your life. Watch some techniques for breaststroke, crawl/freestyle and backstroke and just swap them out during your session.

Was you problem in your lower back? I've been stretching some but my pain isn't consistent enough to gauge if the stretching is helping or not.
