My grandmother and her best buddy drove from Sydney to Perth and back for the 1962 Commonwealth Games in a Morris Minor. They only got 1 flat tyre and my grandfather would not let her go until they knew how to change tyres and do engine maintennce.

Never been to Australia, but this reminded me of driving across Texas, east to west. Felt like dropping into a time warp, it was just Texas. And more Texas. Never been back

Is this more of a scenic drive? Coastal views and such, like maybe highway 1 along the Big Sur area in California?

Yes I'm heading to Tasmania which is off the mainland. Geelong is where the ferry is.
