Give them a happy moment, ya know? Too many people start publicly transitioning and get punched down for it.
Pick something the person chose, not an immutable aspect. Clothes, makeup, hairstyle, anything they woke up that morning and picked out is always a good choice. It's a gender neutral way to say 'I see the effort you have put in and appreciate that it's showing who you are' without coming across as a creep or overly flirty.
I’m a gal and am comfortable complimenting clothes, etc. but I love the idea of purposefully seeking out those who would really get a boost, and then finding something to compliment.
