I saw a post with a lvl 43 gym leader, so at the very least the level cap is wrong.

That seems unlikely to be possible, considering the short time the game's been out and the exponential xp requirements

Gonna go out on a limb and say that post was probably shopped. No way is someone that high in level already given how much XP it takes.
