Authoritarian states frequently use architecture as a form of propaganda. That's why Nazi Germany was obsessed with monumentalism, and why the Moscow subway is so extravagantly ornamental. The Great Hall of the People in China is no different. But even China isn't this bold: the Hall is a conference space, legislative assembly, and office space, not a ballroom.

Communism is an idealistic concept. 'Each gives what they can and takes what they need'. BUT, there are too many lazy and greedy people for it to work. That's why communism tends to drift into totalitarianism.
