I think Bezos superficial and dismissal attitude towards him/his experience also helped in a sense that it the experience became separate from the Blue Origin stunt itself so to speak and made him take it more to heart. (Completely speculative on my part though.)

I remember the footage after Shatner landed. He was clearly having a profound moment of clarity and was trying to share that cathartic moment with the camera.
He felt something that day, but Bezos kept interrupting with nonsense billionaire noises and clearly didn’t seem to give a shit beyond “lols, I sent Captain Kirk to space, look at me, cretins!” type reactions he gave throughout. It was sad.

Here's the thing: does Shatner have a bit of an ego? Yes. Is he the raging ego monster that Takei has painted him as for 60 years? Absolutely not. Shatner gets too much work to this day for that to be true. And I've heard that he was quite gracious with fans. The fact is, NO ONE else in the cast has ever talked the way Takei does. He just sounds bitter now. He's not doing anyone any good by holding onto that animosity, especially himself.

Lots of the cast have said (to Shatner's face, even) that they didn't like how he treated them, Takei wasn't unique. And as an aside, I'm pretty sure Takei has put it all to bed and isn't hanging onto the animosity anymore.

Wil confirmed Michael Dorn offered to beat Shatner up over his treatment and acted as a protective older brother. None of this is normal on set behavior and crosses into people hate you for good reasons.

a lot of the cast has called him out over the years so I'm not getting how this is only Takei without intentional omission on your part. Shatner was forced to apologize to Will Wheaton for being a dick to a child on set. At some point live well if you want to be remembered fondly.

Uh.. I remember hearing Nichelle Nichols talk about a time Shatner asked to interview her for a book or something he was working on. She answered all his questions, he thanks her and is about to stand up to leave when she says: hold on, "now let me tell you why I hated you". Although her description made it appear he was completely oblivious to how he hurt people.
