I'm ashamed that I don't have a Luigi in me, I thought I had more spine than this.

In oligarch America, Poverty is a feature, not a bug.
DoseOfScience
Also assumes you do not have any medical complications or dependents.

It's your own fault! Boot straps, and all that!

You're more than welcome in Portugal my friend. While we're facing our own economican crisis, people are still able to put food on their tables.

absolutely fake stats
SaveitforQueenDoppelpoppolus
this chart is a data artifact from how OECD calculates median disposable income, where "disposable income" is total income minus taxes, but not the same bills if they're not paid for by taxes. that means the US has an artifically high median disposable income (https://www.oecd.org/en/data/indicators/household-disposable-income.html) to it will take more hours of work to reach that higher threshold. even if it was fixed though, that's an insane way to do this calculation and it should be CoL

you are technically correct in that very few democrats care about the interests of fascist collaborators but leave the rest of us out of it
TheobromineAddict
Luigi was estranged from his family, no wife no children no girlfriend. Lack of attachments makes it a lot easier to sacrifice yourself for the common good.
Wifwolf
What about the tonnes of people working for sub-minimum wage (who rely on tips). I wonder how many hours they'd have to work
nobodybelievesme
Poverty runs faster than me. Sometimes it slows down so it can enjoy the look of terror on my face. There is no escape.
iansworld113
Wildly inaccurate load of crap
Sorrontis
Woo... Canada. You gotta work more than the average job (35 h) to get out of poverty!
StevenAlleyn
For the record 80h a week leaves only 4:30 of non-work, non-sleep time per day.
Remove 30 minutes for hygiene/ablutions. 1h for food prep and dinner. 2 hours to commute to/from work.
1h a day left to see children, speak to family, spend time with friends, do laundry, groceries, go to the gym, etc.
StevenAlleyn
To be clear, that is simply unworkable

While I am not going to start the revolution, if I see my neighbor building a guillotine I will come over with tools and a beer.

Where is China?
DoseOfScience
Statistics are statistics for a reason, issuing moral/ethical ultimatums does not negate the situations which cause issues.

Maybe should have fought back when the bar was closer to 40 hours? If you ever get out of this, be more political and tear down the fucking place before recovery becomes near impossible. The bars of the other countries aren't this short because they have better leaders, but because the people fought for it and pushed back before things went south for them.
Armyguy8382
80 hours seems low for the US.
TheSilverSeraph
There are definitely people out there who are pulling out calculators and saying there are 168 hours in a week, so that is the number the US should be aiming for
omygodimonfire3000
80 hours each week
Slvrdgr
Right, but that's only 40 hours of OT, how am I supposed to pay for my eggs with anything less than 100hrs a week? /s
GenshiV
Maybe it's 80 'at each job' so the total is 240, since you'd need 3 to pull it off!

Come to France. We have great food, great landscapes, and when the government tries to do something we don't like we go to the streets.
TheobromineAddict
I'm pretty sure you don't really want Americans there. We ruin everything we touch.
Sebastopol140
We want the good americans, white. /S /S!!!!!!!!
HowlingRollercoaster2
I have been to France, many years ago, and it was beautiful. I didn't care much for Paris because the bathrooms were a challenge- either dirty or paid - but otherwise all good. I will put France on my backup list, I am trying for Australia first as i think my family will acclimate most easily there. But who knows if we will manage to get pr, I don't want to assume anything.
SteveD31415
Whether your cause is worthy or not. Which is why I thoroughly despise your government.
Wuz314159
J'adore france. Are you accepting refugees?
Sebastopol140
An awful lot more than the US does right now.
HowlingRollercoaster2
Sabastopol ca? I used to live in sr
Sebastopol140
No, Sebastopol street in a french little city.

What's it cost for a small one-bedroom on the Riviera? I'd like it there.
Sebastopol140
Prices will vary a lot... depending on how close to the seaside you are, or how close to a big city you are... I'm in Alsace and in Strasbourg the rents are a bit high, but if you leave the big city lights and go a bit further away things calm down a lot.
CorvidPrime
I honestly prefer to be a little ways outside the cities. Still near enough to have access to them, but far enough that it’s peaceful and I can see nature.
Sebastopol140
I'm 100% with you on that. I love city life but I love peace and nature as a place to live.
