Produced through artificial insemination, camas were first bred in 1998 to produce an animal with the size of a camel and the wool production of a llama. It failed on both accounts. Also failing: the name cama. They should have called them llamels.

The frills help to filter bright light in order to see better on a flat horizon. It is believed that llamas and alpacas have more these to block out both direct sunlight and reflected sunlight from snow.

llamel would probably be a male llama and female camel. Male parent tends to be first in the hybrid name (e.g. Liger, Tigon, Zorse...)

Crossbreeding animals tend to be named based on which species was male. Female llama with a male Camel would make a Llamel.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I did not know that. Thank you. Yeah, they are bred from a male camel and a female llama.
