Now, that's a nice looking knot.

I must try this the next time I wear a tie.

[Edit: it's only douchey if you're a douche. I know I posted this in the comments, but that was before I noticed the website allows you to edit titles.]

illumi "knot-tie."

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There are presumably times when this knot would be appropriate but I can't think of what they are.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

2nd post, first viral. Thanks imgur! Btw, it's only douchey if you're a douche.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 17

Sporting this tie would announce to the world that you are in fact in that category.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

instructions unclear. Dick caught in refrigerator lock.

a knot like a boss and the rest of the tie is like

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

That's the joy of waistcoats. You get the best bit on display and the travesty that is the rest of the tie is hidden

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's neat looking, but impossible to wear without looking like a douche.

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 7

I convinced my grandson to use eldridge and trinity knots for homecoming and prom. His dates have been impressed.

10 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 19

Eldridge for the win!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I'm impressed that somebody who has a grandson in high-school uses imgur. Nice.

10 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 2

I wore an Eldredge to a homecoming. Met another guy with a Trinity. Our dates were impressed.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONES!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

First did an eldridge for my 21st party. Never looked back.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Now he has to be convinced to never use them again. Because high school is the last appropriate place for these.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah, I can't do that.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Never wear this or other flashy knots to a formal event or an interview. Just don't. If DC is "cocktail" or you wear it for fun, go nuts.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Solid advice for shoes and jackets too.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you do this, I will automatically think you're a douche.

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 10

Trinity ain't gir shit on the eldrige.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why is this considered a douche knot?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't know either. I kinda like it.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's the Trinity knot... just so you know what to look for...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This looks like an attention seeking knot. Would not recommend for business.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As a tall, thick-necked man, fuck your fancy knots and happiness

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

#linenButthole

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I just think in the real world you look like an idiot with these types of knots.

10 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 17

I mean, at the office sure, but wearing them to events is a good conversation starter if you're not a jerk about it

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Or like you're just trying way too hard

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 7

Why the fuck are people so goddamn offended by a silly knot? Is it a personal insult to you that a tie can be tied like this?

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 11

*high five* IDGI

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah this looks like you fucked up tying a knot so badly it kind of came back on the other side and looked ok.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

That is why I like St Andrews. Different enough to make me feel cool, standard-looking enough that nobody else knows the damn difference.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This honestly isn't that hard to tie, I kid you knot.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I only wear ties to funerals. I don't think others will be impressed

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Yeah … I'll stick with half-Windsor. Easy, classic, and not as pretentious as this comment probably makes me look.

10 years ago | Likes 409 Dislikes 19

Agreed with the Half-Windsor. I've tried Full-Windsor but either it makes the tie to short or I can't get the knot small/tight enough.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Full 'sor for lyfe, skrub

10 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 4

This isn't a knot you wear to church, funerals, or the office. This is a party knot. It's interesting and can start conversations.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Any party boring enough to need ties to be conversation starters is one I don't want to be at.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

To me this looks like a knot someone that wears a fedora and says m'lady would use. I'll stick with half-Windsor as well.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You would be correct.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The Double Windsor is worth learning as it sits a lot straighter on the neck than most. Or at least the one I learned at school

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

School failed you...it's just called a Windsor or full windsor. No such thing as a double windsor.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Internet wins me. A Windsor knot is also known as a Full or Double Windsor. Boom! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor_knot

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't think admitting you prefer a simple knot is a pretentious comment...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

A lot of people (myself included until I started working at an investment bank) only did/knew the four in hand knot. Only one my dad taught

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same but thats cause I'm 6'6" (198cm) and a half Windsor is the best I can do without the tie being too short

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

6'6"? Hellooooo tall man! Unless you're taken, then good-byyeeeee tall man!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can get them extra long, I'm 6'6" as well. Unless you're all torso, then my condolences.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes I'm a pacman ghost... But really there's never as good a selection in the extra long ones so I'd rather just tie it to fit instead

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That makes enough sense, I only wear suits for funerals so I've never needed a good selection.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Full windsor is what i learned at boot camp so it's what i use to this day. Looks better than a half and gives my skinny ties some weight.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Come on, it's like 1 second of extra work to not have an unbalanced knot.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

If you can tie a half windsor properly, you can get a balanced knot that's thinner.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yep, that's exactly why I prefer it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This ^

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Half? What are you; lazy or something?

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

For me the half is necessary due to fat neck and tallness

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

They make ties in "long" size, a few bucks more, but well worth it. Good shops carry them in most styles.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please note that you need an extra long tie. A standard tie will not work. I've tried.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

An extra long tie or a 10 inch neck.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not true at all.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

With all the looping it around and shit the tie ended up being way too short. There is only so much length.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then either you have a thick neck, or you were tying it wrong. I use this not for formal dress parties and stuff, and I always use standard.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did it for a super skinny guy and it barely came to his belly button. Maybe he bought a shorter tie because he's so small.

wow i love you so much for that

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Exactly my first thought seeing this.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love it. Never wood of thought of that. Curiouse how assassin's wear they're tie, if they were to wear one.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that a joke or a fact?

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Actually, if you look very closely at Warren Vidic's tie, you can see that it is indeed true.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Looks like a wad of cloth to me: https://rerollblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/warren-vidic.png

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fuck that guy

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

did I do it right guise? (the tie was only 9.5 inches long after... should be ~13)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

attempt 3 (#2 didn't work at the last step...) correct length and... okay? looking knot:

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

(ignore the lack of collar stays. I wasn't even wearing pants. I never button the top. Also my shirt isn't faded, it's the flash's fault)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Attempt three looks perfect.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

thanks! although it did take like 5 minutes of fiddling and straightening after, and the end is just tucked into the knot. It's too short.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That does seem to be this knot's biggest weakness.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i think the knot looks better with a matte tie. the sheen on your example really highlights every wrinkle in the fabric, makes it look busy.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

another help would probably be a thinner tie to allow the knot to be tighter and easier to thread without wrinkling

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

sadly, I only own the one. Planning on picking up another... eventually. In fact, all the ties I've ever owned have been shiny.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

(used to have a silver one. and a red one before that. Outgrew 'em)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is great... I bet it would looks awsome with a fedora.

10 years ago | Likes 341 Dislikes 33

yes, it'd look like collosal shit with a trilby though.. A fedora is a man's hat and a trilby is one for fucknuts online

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 28

Did this a few times for my aviation uniform, people were impressed. But you just go ahead and think everyone is beneath you, k?

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 11

I prefer it with a nice bicorne.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I've always favored the chapeau Broad... That is a distinquished Military man

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yours is more classy, mine is more... Shouldn't have attacked Russia in the winter.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well you can always go more tall ships and iron men for yours, or just gloss over that little fuckwaddery from that glorious conquering boss

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And a pair of Wayfarers with clear lenses.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

Haven't really seen neckbeards with Wayfarers.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why do people get so fucking pissy whenever one of these weird knots is posted? Like it's the biggest goddamn travesty in the world.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 9

I think that is the first and last time I will ever read that sentence.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nah. The eldritch maybe. But a real fedora, not a trillby poser

I know everytime one of these tie posts pops up I can't help but think oh man they don't know what the real world is like

10 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 6

Until you get some attractive bearded twatty hipster wearing it then OHHHHHH everyone loves it!!!!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

seriously, if you go into an interview with this you're just going to get laughed out the door

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

I got hired with one. Seriously people, its a tie, not a pair of shorts and a tshirt

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

If you have a family dinner or something it's acceptable though. But yea I wouldn't recommend it in a work inviorment.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Damn it! I was going to try this but then you had to say that...

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 4

I, too, have worn this more than once with compliments. DON'T LET YOUR DREAMS BE DREAMS.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

don't let someone's comment discourage you from trying something new! I've done this knot a few times and have got nothing but compliments

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 11

Them was just jokes. I'm definitely trying this

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

It's awful. If someone I was interviewing wore a tie this way, I would assume they don't know how to tie one properly.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

And are you in the position of interviewing people?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Yes.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Oh. Well that answers that I guess
