I thought that's why "love languages" became a thing. Because some people aren't good at using their words so they show it in other ways.

POV: me gathering all my friends to tell them I love them
TyrannusEquus
Man has a solid point. My father passed onto me the not saying we loved one another. He one time expressed doubt about it to my mother. I always loved him, but we only said it twice. He's gone now and we were never on bad terms. But you should say how you feel, my guys.
BitRoyal
My D&D group is spread across the country, so we usually play over Discord and Roll20. Starting five or six years ago, we started using "I love you" as part of our goodbyes. Someone logging off? A little chorus of "Good night! Love you!" rings through chat. And it's a group of six dudes and one lady. I love how open we can be.

My partner’s wife has a pulmonary embolism and died in her sleep when she was 39. You never know when someone will be gone. Don’t wait.
tinyfootprints
Similar story. A very close friend went to bed one night, feeling fine, and never woke up. She was only 51. It turned out that a blood clot had gotten dislodged and then blocked a major artery feeding her brain. She was in a coma for four days and then died.

This was amazing. Too true. When the world is polarized by hate that should tell us we need to normalize love.
eddbrowne
"I love you" to a guy not in family can be odd most places. "You're okay" is safe. But I still love you.
SavageDrums
Toxic masculinity hurts men too.
StriderShizard
Telling the homies you love them is not enough. You have to kiss them. You have to.
zFUBARz
As long as they consent. Consent is important.
Lampmonster
I didn't have "I love you" friends for most of my life. Then, several years ago I met a new group and we started getting close and soon they were all saying "I love you" on the regular, and before long I was saying it too. It matters, it feels good to say it and to hear it. Never go back. If you can't tell your friends you love them, maybe you don't. Maybe they're not your real friends. Maybe it's time to look around for some real friends. Just my take.
GeorgeCostabaplaps
My cousin Mikey killed himself a long while back now. I never got to tell him he could have come to me and been safe. I never told him I loved him no matter what. You can, and I do every moment.
JustDaShoemaker
Live your best life my friends! With good coffee and with intent. If no one loves you, commit to being the person you can love and have a great life you’re happy about. Listen to good music, eat the tasty stuff, take a drive in your happy car. Write it down, recognize every small victory. Be your most authentic selves. Love you guys!

My best bud and I say I love you to each other all the time. It's nice and it feels nice and I dont care what other chumps think about that.

I have "friends" in that we are friendly with each other. But if *I* don't reach out, there's no contact. If we hang out it's almost always because the wives coordinated get-togethers with the families. Wish I had more guy-friends, but it's a two-way street, and it sucks feeling like you're the only one that tries. And I did try, and ... well, now I'm just tired of trying. Thanks for letting me share.

Yep. I feel this.

I got one. Or got him back. We were so close at one point. Then bc of a thing he did I broke contact. After many years I regretted that and made contact again. I am so happy I got him back. And its never too late. He is my bro.

guys night tonight
royrogersdoublerbarburger
No idea why but I read that as "western subarus" like it was a gang of male Outback/CrossTek enthusiasts that formed a club and you were inviting folks to join. Oh, also, I am not a smart man.

Ye, i hang out monthly with the highschool squad going on 13 years now, we try to go camping together once a year at least too.
Also infinite friend glitch, i play/run TTRPG's, which is a reason to get together weekly online(primarily Americans, 1 Brit, and 1 fellow Canadian).
Also i have/had a bunch of online gaming friends from LoL and BDO, good times, some of us still keep in touch.
I am on disability due to SO MANY issues tho, so i have much more time than most.

This, uhh... This might help with it. :)

Is there a video for the folks who like keeping their thumbs?
subject6661
I was thinking this first too, but when i read two 'screenshots' i thought itd be eadier to keep reading and a video i very likely have skipped by thst point. I dont thibk reading a bit once in a while really hurts. (I also cant watch videos at work due to loud noises)

I'm Nordic and we are somewhat reserved. But in my understanding it's not the words, but the deeds that matter. We even have a saying "not the words, but deeds". So I kinda understand what he's saying that we should say it more often, but I feel that we should show it more often
PanNonOpticon
I feel that Americans use this word so much that it¨s meaning has deteriorated. Love has become synonym to like in US English.
iambadatspallin
This isnt really a cultural thing tho, people being nice to each other and doing things for them is kinda a worldwide thing lol. What he is saying is that some people know you care about them, but may not know just how much, like imagine you had a friend who felt alone and unloved. Yeah he has friends but nobody actually loves them, well if you were telling him then he would no longer have that confusion. I can reasonably say this is actually happened irl, i got a friend like this lol
iambadatspallin
Also im a world traveler so yes i really can say that people being nice to their friends and doing things happens every where, before anyone wants to say im ignorant
inmediasrays
Idk man translation difficulties aside, I don’t want to be the sort of partner that never says “I love you” because my partner should just know by the way I act towards them. I don’t see why i wouldn’t extend to my friends and other loved ones, too.
I’ve lost people but at least I could take some comfort in knowing the last thing I ever said to them was “I love you.”

DeanSledgehammer
At least in finnish we pretty much only have a word for romantic love and it'd be very weird to say it to your friends. Maybe you could use "olet rakas" = "you are a loved one", but usually it's more the style "lovely to see you" etc.
Goldensands
... saying it -IS- showing it. I am Scandinavian and I frankly abhor your logic. It perpetuates the issue imo.
pahapaavo
Sorry you feel that way. But I stand with my point and say that doing is more than saying. I can say all day you're my best bud, but if I never see you or do anything to you, words mean little.
Deeds > words
inmediasrays
Right nobody ever said you should ONLY use words. Thats a straw man you’re beating to death.
Goldensands
Obtuse, unintelligent copy pasta and I'm gonna go ahead and "do" the "deed" of not humoring you. Try and think more complexly about human nature and morality some day. That shite right there isn't fit for folk school. Farrrvel
ThighsocksandKnots
Different types of love languages too. I like to do things for others, I show my love in remembering little details, checking in, but I also try to use a bit of the other person’s love language. My partner is very affectionate with his language and I’ve started to do it too! Call him sexy, handsome, beautiful even, tell him how much I appreciate things, thank him for taking care of me and taking me places. Showing some love back in the way they express it has helped them feel appreciated

Nice! :)
