TLDR: sick kid gets awesome gift from kind biker gang.
This is Dawson my oldest son. He’s 14 and he has severe Ulcerative Colitis as well as Autism (Autism doesn’t define him. He’s been in years of therapy: OT, ST and social therapy and while there’s no cure he can cope with it better and has friends and loves school and everyone).
Above is the Ambitious Bikerz. This is an area biker club. They contacted us and wanted to do something for Christmas for Dawson.
Dawson is considered immunocompromised now due to the medication he is on for his autoimmune disease. He’s been very sick. He’s been in and out of the hospital many times since October.
He has never been very sporty. He’s very smart. He’s a drummer in the high school band, but he has always wanted to be on the high school power lifting team. Due to him being diagnosed with UC and not being able to be around a lot of people because of his extremely low immunity, he had to quit working out in any gyms. We also never know how he will feel from day to day.
We would have loved to have provided him with his own weight set, but because of tons of medical bills and the astronomical price of the medication that helps his condition we couldn’t afford to do very much this year, but in true Dawson fashion, he knew how things were and was just going to wait a year and try again next year. But he was disappointed he couldn’t continue to work out and get ready for next year.
That’s when these guys and gals stepped in.
We got a message from one of their members saying a little birdie told them about Dawson and they always pick a few kids from the community that need a Christmas blessing. And asked could they give Dawson a gift. We had no idea they would do all this.
They came to our house in cars and on their bikes. They had a weight set and weight bench for Dawson. So he could work out whenever he wants to without having to leave the house!
This is Dawson checking out the weight set. That’s my husband in the back.
Gonna test it out in the driveway. :)
I’m posting this to show there are still some amazing, giving, loving people in the world. We were so thankful and humbled by this. It’s been a very, very hard few months for him and our family.
We are usually the ones giving so it was very overwhelming that complete strangers wanted to give our kiddo something like this.
We will definitely be paying it forward as soon as we can!
Merry Christmas!
Be awesome to one another.

At least one of them didn’t ruin the handling of the bike by stretching it. Good on em though.

Motorcyclists are some of the best people you will ever meet

My dad's got the same thing, and he's been going on sheer stubbornness this far. Your son's gonna be alright no doubt.
nonamejanie
Well Dawson is pretty hard headed! So that’s nice to hear! Hope your dad continues to do well! I never knew how awful this really was.
DredeKnig
The man's had it for some years now and has only been getting better. Dawson's sure to go the same route :) Merry Christmas!
nonamejanie

Bikers get such a bad rep but a lot of them are really great people

And a lot of of them are real scumbags and assholes. Local gang is a bunch of 40 something wanna be tough guys that start fights.

Upvoted for contrast. Local gang when i was a kid was a bunch of dog fighting assholes who kept sending my family death threats 'cause my 1/

You guys should for sure! I bet they don't expect anything back. You'll have friends for a long time.
nonamejanie
We will! I know they don’t expect anything in return, but I’d love to be able to thank them in a good way! Plus meet their families!
Fartsprinkle
I wanna see updates in a few months of these muscles! Merry Christmas dude
nonamejanie
Ok! He’s on a mission! That’s for sure.

I don't think I've ever seen a black bike gang. Hmm.
nonamejanie
They have the cool bikes! Those super fast ones that my husband calls crotch rockets.

I just tried here’s my email cutiepatootie3@gmail.com (please don’t judge it’s nuts I know. I’ve had it since google mail became a thing)

As someone with crohns disease and ulcerative colitis, with a dash of auto immune hepatitis thrown in, keep on keeping on little man.
nonamejanie
Damn. Bless your heart. I hope you are doing well.
swvagirl
As best I can. I don't need a liver transplant at this point so that's a blessing. Prednisone keeps it in check
nonamejanie
That’s good at least. Hugs.
lordelordelorde
If only medication and treatment / care wasn't "astronomically" expensive. That sucks

Yes. I never really understood how broken the system was until he got so sick. And we even have insurance. But it picks what it will cover.
nonamejanie
Yeah I wish I was exaggerating. But sadly I’m not.
thaicats
Move to Canada! We’ll cover all that for you ;) But seriously, it makes me sad that your family is having a tough go for that reason.
nonamejanie
We just had to reprioritize and regroup. We try to stay positive and my family is extremely involved and supportive, so that helps. We>
nonamejanie
Never knew how bad the system was broken until Dawson got so sick. We even have insurance but it’s not enough. But that’s ok. We’ll make it!
LouPole101
I see so much hate in the news everyday that I often forget there are mostly good people in the world.
nonamejanie
That’s one reason I wanted to share! Merry Christmas!

That's wonderful! Very nice!
nonamejanie
Thanks! Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!!!!
nonamejanie
And to you and yours also!

I didn't read a single word of this and can only assume these guys, based on the images, took your motorbikes when you where out exercising!
nonamejanie
Hahahaha. Lord naw.
f4m0us4m0s
Those were some nice bikes ....
nonamejanie
My husband was like “can I ask for a ride” hahaha I was like I’d be afraid my shoe would scratch one! My kids thought they were awesome!
Inarticulated
HAHAHAHAAHAHAH thank you for this <3

My eye faucets are on again. Great story. Merry Christmas.
nonamejanie
Thanks! Hope you have a very merry Christmas!
GnomeMode
Oh my gosh, he developed that so young. I'm so sorry. My hubby has Crohns. He does one of the infusion meds every 6wks.
nonamejanie
Bless him. I hope his meds are keeping him in remission! And yeah it sort of blind sided us.
GnomeMode
I don't think he can ever achieve remission with his, but he can at least have an almost normal life
nyaargh
now his path to becoming a powerlifting champ begins
nonamejanie
Hey here’s hoping! :)
notacanadianbutilovehockey
Don't know his particular diagnosis but I fought UC years ago. Had the colon removed and it changed my life. I'm here if you want to talk.
nonamejanie
His is from his transverse to his rectum. And that is an option for him if it doesn’t get any better. I almost want to just let them do it>
nonamejanie
> so he will have his quality of life back. It’s been absolutely awful. I had no idea UC was like this!
9linemonkey
I had UC then surgery. Happy to chat about it if you Have any questions.
nonamejanie
Might hit you up. Thank you. I feel like there are so many variables! Like every case is so different.
9linemonkey
No worries, any time. I now have messaging unlocked also.
AndImRonBurgundy
Mine is as well. I got diagnosed 6 years ago during college and it’s been hell on earth coping with it. Hoping the surgery will help
nonamejanie
Everyone that has told me that they had surgery says it completely changed their life for the better. So I’m hoping it is the same for you.
nonamejanie
I’m trying to wait until Dawson is older and can actually have a say in what he wants surgery or no surgery.
AndImRonBurgundy
I’m getting the j-pouch surgery in March, so terrified. Is that what you got?
nonamejanie
I will keeping you in my thoughts. I hope it’s an easy process with minimal pain. Hugs and love to you.
9linemonkey
I had this done 9 years ago. You or anyone else can message me out you want to talk about it.
9linemonkey
Although because i am a lurker apparently i have not unlocked messaging...
notacanadianbutilovehockey
Yup. Pretty major surgery, get as strong as you can before going in. It will make recovery easier. Life became awful close to normal after.
notacanadianbutilovehockey
The only issue after recovery is I don't have the "storage capacity" most people do, so I have to go 7 -10 times a day on average.
notacanadianbutilovehockey
But there's full control, no running to the nearest toilet or any of the other UC bullshit. It's been over 20 years, no regrets, all good.
notacanadianbutilovehockey
Doing it as a planned surgery is a huge benefit. I'm an idiot who waited wayyyy to long to get it done and turned it into an emergency deal.
