So, this is certainly appalling. But I have to push back on "solve hunger and homelessness" (let alone do this three times.) 50 million Americans routinely experience food insecurity, and 800 thousand are homeless. So if we tackled each problem separately (while another 100 billion greases the wheels of bureacracy.) That is $2000 per hungry person and $125k per homeless person. Actually that second one might work...

If nothing else, a country with a $1.8 Trillion budget deficit (half of that payments servicing existing debt) shouldn't be lowering taxes. I think we, here, all agree, tax increases should come from the rich and the corporations, but I can see this being a debate for the economics majors. That taxes can't be slashed should be obvious to high school dropouts

The first one too. You just think way to straight forward. Nobody says just give them the money. That would be stupid. You build proper institutions with proper subsidies to both grow and distribute food to people in need.
Everything spend for the Iran war alone would've easily be enough to fix that and properly rework the education system. It's not about the missing ressources it's deliberate neglect.
Not enough soldiers in countries with no desperate undereducated hungry people.

You can build a state-run farm (or a public–private partnership? I hope you're not suggesting just chucking more cash at Cargill, because that hasn't worked out so far,) but who is going to pay the operational costs? Now, obviously, Uncle Sam borrowed this money at ~4.5% APR and if they hadn't, there would be $4.5 billion extra, that are currently lost. Is that enough? (Probably not, but don't know)

I also want to push back strongly on the Father Knows Best bullshit of "you can't just *give* them the money". You can, and unless there are additional complications (such as them being an addict,) you should. Studies show it's one of the most efficient ways of lifting people out of poverty (this, incidentally, is the whole idea behind UBI.)

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Still fighting symptoms rather than cause, but yeah therefore this money could've helped millions out of hunger and poverty.
There is a study that shows that especially working poor mothers are more likely to accept SNAP benefits than direct cash, but that has a whole rats-tail of general societal flaws, on why thats even the case behind it. So I agree.
Stop bombing Iran, free palastine, support ukraine, tax amazon, provide general basic income, save society.
