Let's get this bread
It's a really cool coincidence.
Pippin tax!
Today's message from Pippin: "i love you!"
____
1) Are you on the run to a safe place and passing through Arizona on your way to safer grounds? My apartment is open to you to crash at, and it is a safe space. Pippin and I will make you a meal and gladly share tea, wine, or mead with you.
2) Hey! Take your meds with a full glass of water, please. Do it for Pippin, or Space Mom, or better yet, do it for yourself.
3) Ĝefeloað wē. We will carry on.
4) all funds from the sales of items at these two links will be sent to support charities aiding to fight for Trans rights in the US (not just T-shirts!)

More likely, from a textual or verbal description. Reading or hearing a description of a flag, and then having a skilled artist recreate it (without having ever seen it), is very much an intended feature in heraldry/vexillology. It’s a relatively modern idea that these things would look *exactly* some particular way every time. Europe had a technical language (blazon) for specifying what these look like, and I imagine China had something similar.
dragoonwraith
The blazon for the Mexican flag is “A vertical tricolour of green, white and red, with the National Coat of Arms centred on the white band,” and the National Coat of Arms is blazoned “Atop a nopal pedestal, a Mexican golden eagle devouring a rattle snake, all proper.” China’s artist would presumably understand tricolor, red, white, green, eagle, and snake, but not be familiar with a golden eagle, nor a rattlesnake, in particular, and would have no reference for “nopal” (a cactus), hence this.

#24... Gonna be that guy... basically the entire right half of this is not chain mail but scale mail. Better against stabbing but weaker against cutting... of course neither really do much against a big hammer or mace but they are different.

#2 I'd like to say my hobby is hunting but tbf i mostly just kinda sit in the woods for a few hours with nothing to show for it so i guess my hobby is really looking at trees.
DdCno1
Call it vegan hunting and start a trend.
InspiringBadger
If it makes you happy, then it's the right hobby. We don't need to get all analytic about it.
kydn
Similarly my hobby is 40k, but in reality it's buying a pile of boxes of plastic... I also play games, but again, I just spend money on Steam sales... so I dunno? "Collecting things" is a bit vague though?

When I looked at this, the nerd in me went, “um… there’s a fou~ oh riiiight. When I took biology in high school, they still thought that one was extinct.” Fuck I’m old. My freshman year of high school was 1995-96. Armored fish is the new one that wasn’t there at the time.

Fish is a common language word. That means it's purely about vibes and similarity of appearance not modern cladistiscs as some keep trying to push.
elusivekarma
But osteichthyes is scientific nomenclature, not common language. I too am greatly vexed!

#6 As a Kansan, I feel the need to defend my state. Kansas is only the 6th flattest state. Florida is the flattest. Also, if you can't tell me the amber waves of grain in the Great Plains prairie with its rolling hills and amazingly far horizons aren't beautiful, then I can't trust you.
CodyBurkett
I mostly posted this because *i remember reading that study when it came out*
I've been to your state, @ATinyWaffle. It is lovely. And surprisingly good wine, I had a rosé made from St. Vincent that I still think about.
AsAHistorian
Also, literally the ENTIRE EARTH is flatter than a pancake, from the Marianas Trench up to Mount Everest. Smoother than a bowling ball, flatter than a pancake. Saying that about Kansas is utterly meaningless.

#32 Spot on. Maybe it's just my age, but it feels like a lot of people (or at least a vocal group) are calling having proper grammar and knowledge of punctuation an AI tell. And it's most annoying.
InablueMule
i have studied as an adult what i should have learned in 3rd grade and i just am no good at it.
CedricDur
Even before AI I remember typing something in a PvP match and someone whispering that I typed like an obese person. To be fair I rarely saw the use of those 0.1 seconds by shaving letters off my words so I gave up on that early on. But I still remember that exchange, decades later, where typing badly is a badge of pride.
noReallyIamPrincessBob
I’m surprised that AI supposedly has proper grammar, when it has been trained on all the garbage written on the Internet.
Feralkyn
Unfortunately there's also just a lot of AI content being masqueraded (by people) as real too, and it makes everyone super suspicious. Example's that JamieGeorge user here on Imgur who exclusively (!) posts AI posts with AI pics, but because it aligns politically with most Imgurians' views, they don't notice. Those who DO notice tend to get... paranoid.
FaeVikingPrincess
I remember when people would insult you and call you a nerd for using proper grammar. Now they claim you're AI. What a time to be alive.
JustUsLeagueUnlimited
The pedantic nature of the internet makes me over explain stuff because I don't want my comments purposely misinterpreted. But, it has the stilted tone AI often has.
Rijacki
First the Oxford comma and the two spaces after a period...
Spelling full words was (somewhat) improved by the spell checkers, but using any vocabulary above a 5th grade level is suspect as well now on top of being presumed to be pretentious.

trigonman3
Two spaces after a period is for monospaced typewriters. Everything else is 1 space after the period.
Rijacki
And you can tell who first learned to type when there were only typewriters. My middle school only had mostly manual typewriters and a couple electric (Selectric?) typewriters. When computers started to be more mainstream, the 2nd space after a period went away. It took a while for some of us to adjust.
beemarr
Depends. When I was submitting manuscripts to literary mags for publication, the submission guidelines still required two spaces after a period, even with digital stuff. Sot it's not as prevalent now, but it definitely still exists.

The greens are indeed edible, but takes some effort/the right recipe to make them palatable. The roots can also be roasted got a coffee substitute.
