The #1 think I hate about smokers. They seem to think that anyplace on the ground is perfectly fine to throw their butts. You'll see them on the ground immediately surrounding the ash can. I'm in favor of their right to smoke - like any drug - but they fall to respect everyone else's right to not have to smell it, breathe it, nor deal with their garbage.

Back in the day when smoking was allowed in hotels, depending on demand they would flip them quickly into non-smoking rooms with small signs cause they understood that maybe the next guest or just previous one would smoke. It was a “courtesy sign” to make the non-smoking guest feel better and less confusing for housekeeping to remove and place ashtrays

This, and also a ashtray full of ashes is way easier to clean compared to what would happen otherwise, which is people leaving their ashes on whatever happens to be handy at the moment: a paper napkin, a coffee cup, on the floor, etc

I worked not so long ago in one of the biggest Premier Inns in the UK and people are that selfish that, just for a cigarette inside, they'd kick the whole damn place out at 12 at night. Rather than go a few minutes outside. I boiled my blood.

There's not much of a health difference between the smoke of them. As well, any smoke isn't ideal to be breathing. And as it's the health aspect that gets them banned, it's kind of moot thing.

I'm 37 and i smoke because when i was 12 my mom found a carton of cigarettes my dad was hiding, he told her they were mine, and my mom told me she was going to make me smoke every cigarette.. it was miserable, but at some point, she asked me how the smoking was.. and being a smart ass i said "pretty good" and she got mad and snatched my cigarette and put it out on my wrist.. I got addicted and i tried to quit many times, but the emotional pain and the scar i have makes it hard to quit.

Smoking anything is likely bad for you, but what you smoke and how much you smoke matters. For me, I rarely take weed, but when I do how I take it depends on why I take it. Edibles take 1-2 hours to take effect and last for a long time, so I use them for sleeping. Vape acts quickly and gives me a light high, so I use it to help de-stress. Smoking flowers out of a pipe gives a better high, but harsher on the lungs, so that's more of a treat. ->

But even when I was smoking my most, I would smoke 1-2 joints a week, while I know cigarette smokers who smoke 3-4 cigarettes a day. Additionally, I have never found weed to be addictive. I've been able to start and stop incredibly easily. It's probably been 2-3 months since I last smoked anything. So while I wouldn't be surprised that smoking weed is bad for your lungs, to me it seems significantly less bad than cigarettes. Additionally smoking weed is a different experience than edibles

You are not considering indirect and long term effects of your actions, it seems. You are keeping alive an industry that harms other smokers and there is a high chance you will later on offload a huge amount of health costs to the tax payers.

Only 50? Smoking was identified as the leading cause of lung cancer in the early 1950s. Anyone born in 1955 or later has never lived in a world where smoking was not known to be BAD. That's 69 years. Throw an extra 10 years on that due to "not many 10 and under folks smoking" (yes, I know they exist...but not many), and we're left with everyone under the age o9f 70 who smokes being an idiot. And you read it here first: 30 years from now....

I mean it does seem like if any vice were to be targeted so heavily it'd be those who drink. Because it seems 100% socially acceptable for people to get so blitzed that many of them lose their sense of reason and decide to drive around. (Not that it's socially acceptable to drink and drive, but getting drunk enough to make that choice is acceptable.)
