If I were one of the 53,502 people who just elected Kurek I'd be rather offended that the guy who lost his own election and doesn't have any connection to my riding is now going to run for the seat. The cost alone would annoy me.

You should check out the local council elections in England right now for more contagion. On the above though.. I thought it was illegal to ditch a win so soon? It is in the UK according to election law I was looking at last month.. I'm no expert though, maybe loopholes are available for the well connected?

Alberta has been a bastion of conservatism for 80+ years. The conservatives have run the provincial govt since 1971, with just a 4 year gap from 2015-19. They didn't catch it from you.

Liberals rarely even bother to run a competitive campaign west of Kenora, this year being the exception. With the complete and abject and well-deserved collapse of the NDP in the prairies and northern Ontario, they did manage to gain some seats. Generally the LPC focuses on a half dozen major urban areas across Canada.
