I'm not much of a greenthumb, but I do grow milkweed and foster monarch caterpillars into butterflies. This little guy hatched just as I was checking on them this morning.
Sorry, a banana was too big for scale.

I like to tell kids about how if we grew as much as a caterpillar does, we wouldn't stop growing until we're the size of a school bus!

How small was it at one minute old?
Sallavar
Even smaller! Their bodies are so compressed in the egg, they expand as they hatch!

awesome! if only there was something for scale besides that huge, comically large fake penny

nice. i grow a bunch of milkweed, but haven't attracted any monarchs yet. any tips?
Sallavar
Feeding flowers. We also have a lot of lillies, hostas, roses and morning glories for food to attract the butterflies.

I've got a full garden, roses, hollyhocks, iris, sunflowers. I've seen couple different swallow tails, painted ladies, cabbage whites so far
