So this is kind of a complicated thing. Mediterraneans are darker than most Europeans and can tan to be easily black-passing, but at the same time beauty standards are incredibly classist and pretty much always have been, so the most attractive person in Ancient Greece probably would be very light-skinned. It shows that she's rich and doesn't have to go outside. But the "Hurr durr it's not historical" people probably don't know that, and modern beauty standards do kinda favor light tans.
