November 16, 2018 I lost a battle to stairs. Broke both my fibula and tibia with the piece of tibia attempting to break through my leg.

The ER residents attempt at a splint. Poor fella was a bit nervous but I guess he did his best.

November 26: I am Iron(wo)man. 9 pins, 1 plate, 1 screw, and the worst pain of my life the day the nerve block wore off.

2 weeks later, bye bye stitches and hello hard cast.

Present day: Finally graduated to a "walking" boot, though not allowed to walk quite yet. Look a bit less hideous.

Posting to remind myself how far I've come when the winter depression starts creeping in.

Tl;dr dumb idiot breaks leg bones, has surgery, and realizes walking is a huge luxury

Hang in there: it will be a great scar and better story! Physical therapy will be magic.

Wife got those same scars because of a fall she did as a 40th birthday present to me while 7 months pregnant

That had to be horrifying!

Nothing like caring for newborn baby and a non-load bearing wife

I just broke my fibula but totally agree, you don’t realize what a luxury walking is until you can’t. I only had 6 weeks non-weight bearing

It's quite the journey that's for sure. Glad you're on the mend!
