The guitar is a 2003 Schecter Diamond Series Elite 006. It is the first guitar I ever owned, got it at Guitar Center in 2004 for $325(ish) new.
I regret not documenting the process more with photos, I'll do another post when I'm finished with my brother's cheap Washburn electric that he wants me to fix up for him (he started to sand the finish off of his 10 years ago and he never and it's been in a closet ever since). This time I'm expecting to take pics of every stage before and after and possibly some of the tools I use.
I sanded down the headstock (front and back) and the entire guitar body. Before staining, I used a shielding/conductive paint inside the pickup, output, and control cavities.
The "spots" in the finish are places where I used a high grit sandpaper so that the wood was less accepting of the stain. I had no real plan, I was just experimenting. The stain is Minwax Dark Walnut. Slapped on a couple of coats of tung oil varnish to finish it off.
I installed Stewart MacDonald Golden Age zebra overwound humbucking pickups, an Alpha push pull tone pot, RS Guitarworks Superpot for the volume pot, 5 way SuperSwitch (originally had a 3 position switch) for pickup selection, and a Mojotone Vitamin T .022uF @ 600V Oil Filled Capacitor.
I did all the soldering myself over two nights (the first time I ever soldered!).
Lastly, I leveled and crowned the frets. Many of the frets were in dire need or leveling with multiple flat spots along the width of the fingerboard.
I thought someone may find this mildly interesting.
TL;DR: my guitar looks and sounds differ now.
Edit: updated post to reflect the model is an and not an Omen 6 as I had always believed.
Edit edit: Did some digging in Schecter's catalogue archive and discovered that the Guitar is a Deluxe 006, 2004 model. The serial number indicates that the guitar was made in 2003 but when comparing 2003 to 2004 models, the pickup selector switches are different. The 2004 has a blade style like mine.
