My headphone-connector was a symmetrical 5-pin DIN; plugged in one way you'd get your music in the headphones AND in the speakers, turned 180 degrees you'd disconnect the speakers when plugging it in.

Back in my day we just screamed at the computer, and then the internet would scream back! And we told ourselves we liked it, too!

Pretty sure MIDI connectors are larger. But I haven't used either in a while.

They were used for cassette players. There was also a 7 pin version that allowed the (usually) computer to start and stop the motor.

My professors in college told us about those. That gives me anxiety trying to keep them in order.

I used these at U of MD in the 80's. You had to number them in case you dropped them. When you would run a program, it might take a few hours before you got results. A card out of order would cause the program to fail so you had to be extra careful of the order
