I am pretty sure Italy didn't join WW1 until quite late and on the side of the Allies

Italy was in a defensive pact in 1914 with the Triple Alliance, but they remained neutral. When they realized Austria was too aggressive, they switched sides. They signed the Treaty of London in 1915, officially joining the Triple Entente, and officially entering the war.
