That is stranded knitting, not intarsia. Gorgeous mittens, and totally doable if you can knitting in the round.

You've got this! The biggest trick is keeping your tension and managing your floats. Just be careful because it's easy to tighten up too much when you change colors which makes the material tighter and harder to put on things like gloves (or sweaters).

I think the perceived ages of the characters are simply being filtered through the lens of the viewer. For example, as a Millennial watching this show, I perceive Bob and Linda as "adults". Like Mr Frond. But not like myself, who was always a kid when I used to watch the Simpsons on TV, therefore, Mr Frond must be my parents' age :P
Well, that and it seems the overall culture forgot about Gen X. Again. Sorry.
