Has been bugging me for a while now
Not entirely sure this is the correct meme to use here. But I'm socially awkward. So I have for a while wondered if my Dad might not be an undiagnosed autistic person.
Essentially I was just thinking about it in abstract and realised a lot of his behaviours border on the obessive. I then realised that I actually share a lot of personality traits with him. So I took an online AQ test (Yes I know online tests can't always be trusted) but it scored me as being somwhere on the spectrum.
Weirdly im not upset or stressed out by this but I do want to take some steps to either confirm this and perhaps figure out how I can figure out how to operate with this new info.
Figured i'd throw this one out to the internet here. I'm in the UK and am nearly 30. What steps can I take to get a confirmed diagnosis. Is it worth doing? What can it change? etc etc.

It's all just ASD. It was reclassified, under the understanding that ASD encompasses what we first thought was a separate diagnosis.

My experience is that they don't really do testing on adults since you've had all of this time to learn how to work around it.

I recently took the RAADS-R its supposed to be 97% accurate and I was well beyond the threshold. Now I'm trying to find more answers. GL

Everyone's on the spectrum. It's like saying you've slept with a number of supermodels. That number could be 0, but it's still a number.

Make an appointment with a psychologist. You've got the NHS, right? With covid around that should only take a few months, 6-8, yeah?

I got a confirmed diagnosis in the UK at 41. Neat to know why I'm the way I am but it doesn't change anything. I'm too old for that.

Time to hit up a neuropsychologist for an assessment. I recently got an ASD diagnosis. I found it kinda fun to do the cognitive test.

You'll likely need a GP referral, so speak to your GP about it.
