Sad he has stepped down from Planet Earth 3, but the man is 97!
*Edit it seems he's only being replaced for the next episode, where children will be taking his place as narrator

You know what you did....

Richard Attenborough, the old man from Jurassic Park who "spared no expense" is David's brother and Richard based the character on David. Richard died several years ago.
HandoB4Javert
Also, he commissioned Monty Python https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Attenborough#BBC_administration
brainkandle1
Sorry but FUCK this post I thought he was dead
salikarn
Sorry you jump to conclusions
duffman3335
His brother was responsible for the dinosaurs taking over the earth...
LordFriteuse
Observe if you will, this slimy little denizen, neither fish nor fowl... perched right upon the lip of the lapping brook. This blob-like, repellent, belch of nature. Evolution doesn't have a plan. It makes frequent and catastrophic mistakes. And this is one of its most horrible botch jobs. You cannot pay me a thousand pounds to touch it on its backside, and the old witch's tale that to touch it on its backside brings a wart ~I believe is true~...

I wonder what that lapel pin is-not the animal but where he got it

David Attenborough came out of retirement, because he saw the incredible advances in photography and video resolution compared to what he'd worked with over the years before... and just knew he'd see more than ever before. High speed cameras capture things like never before. So glad David returned. He's a world treasure! And his warnings about the climate are so very much on point -- everyone should listen to him!
AllTheGoodOnesWereGone
He already said his goodbyes in one of the earlier series, so at this point everything is just bonus encores so enjoy every moment.
Bugguts1957
This gentleman is an intergalactic treasure. Has been the voice of the planet since before I was born. Sad to see him retire but he has earned it. Hopefully a suitable replacement can be found
TheFairyClinkerBell
He was also responsible for Match of the Day, The Old Grey Whistle Test, Monty Python's Flying Circus when head of BBC 2 in the 1960's.

I've got a sound clip of him saying "boobies are superb" and it might be one of my favorite notification sounds on my phone
Dangerm1ll
I wrote to him a couple months back on behalf of one of my autistic clients. He wrote back and signed a picture that Id sent with the letter. He'll cherish his response forever.

Always upvote Sir David!

It's not OUR planet.
salikarn
One of his documentaries was named Our Planet
Malinut
I know, seen it. Great series. Unfortunate BBC marketing, esp when you consider it showcased other species habitats! I seem to recall DA himself commented that the planet's not really ours to do with as we please, which is the point I'm making of course.
Styxwash
He's holding up well at 97
cantankerousmanul
What do you mean he stepped down? I am watching Planet Earth 3 right now and he's narrating it.
salikarn
Your right, I hastily made the post after seeing a few articles that he was stepping down, but on further review, it might just be the next episode because of a children's event. I'll update my text later.

He doesn't seem to do shoots on location anymore, which is totally understandable. I think his first nature documentary film was in 1956!

I met him once decades ago when i was at college I worked as a waiter at a hotel and served him some food. It was nice to meet someone in person that you admire. He is one of very few who are not on my shit list.

Okay, he's still alive. Fuck, don't scare me like that man!

I went from 0 scared to 100 scared instantly
LeCoq1963
He's 97, so steel your nerves. When his time does come, at least he won't be like an old wildebeest taken down by hyenas.
MaelstromSama
We can't know that for sure.

I immediately dove for the comments

right??? Jfc my heart dropped out of my ass

You are scared by a 97 year old person dying? You better don't work in a retirement home.
ErudiousRex
Yea, I told my wife that I'll be needing a good couple if days off if the inevitable happens. I feel like his voice could bring peace to the middle east. Rare human.
walnutbreath
For real, the title should include still alive in parentheses.
OtterSpaceExplorer
He’s doing science and he’s still alive.
16bitStarbuck
Well, he's 97. Don't be shocked or anything.

We were pretty lazy naming our planet Earth. This ground we stand on. I say we petition to rename this planet something cooler, like Xantron. Or Fantasmo. Or Jeff.
