The "generations" of the Bat Family show a kind of progression - Alfred was an outright secret service agent with 0 qualms about taking life. Bruce refused, but was still the hardest of hardasses. Dick was more well rounded.

There was a Wayne Family Adventures comic with something like that said by Aquaman. I can't remember which one exactly but AM is in Gotham and is aided by the various members of the Bat family despite Batman being our of town.
