Protip, just use a cardboard core very lightly covered in spray adhesive. Stretch natural fibre (cotton, not nylon or any plastics) pantyhose/tight material over top of the cardboard to laminate the two surfaces, then cover the entire thing in a thin layer of 5 minute epoxy using a brush or roller. Trim the epoxified edges when the epoxy is 90% hardened, let it cure fully, then repeat on the other side. Sand and paint.
