One would think with all the technological advances we would be able to make them without being a blatant explosion hazard. *puts steampunk hat on* I would welcome a world where these are common.

The technology was always safe with helium, and modern ones are rather efficient. But here’s the thing: they are slow. It’s more of a platform than a vehicle.

Archer did a whole episode about this. They repeatedly freaked out because someone lit a cigarette or something and went into a full blown panic while being reminded that its filled with helium, its not flammable. Its totally safe.

Helium existed back then and was used in US airships. The US had a monopoly on helium and wouldn't sell to Germany.

I mean, yeah, but helium doesn't grow on trees..

They are filled with helium now, totally safe

Helium is finite, rare and expensive, I'm sure there would be more airships if it wasn't
