They wrote some pretty good music for this scene. Kinda reminds me of the song Will Smith wrote for Wild Wild West.
(My best friend since childhood is a huge Zepplin fan. I said that to him after the movie came out and he didn't talk to me for a week.)

I interpreted it as: He gets his powers from Asgard. Asgard is its people. Most, possibly all, of the Asgardians are gone, or broken.
He's still shown to be powerful in infini war

But he again required a weapon to summon massive ass-kicking amounts of lightning, which contradicts this climactic scene of Ragnarok.
