I have a super private account, and a separate account that is fully visible. Post to both on a daily basis. Different content, obviously.

OR you could set your security to only be open to your friends and then claim you don't HAVE a Facebook if asked. Much simpler and safer.

You can still access the front page of your profile and that would probably be detrimental when they discover your lie.

I used to have my profile set where you couldn't search for me, or even see my comments unless you were my friend.
You know what I'm talking about. Privacy to the point of paranoia means fewer problems in the long run.
I'm a firm believer that people's private lives are often not very indicative of their work ethics. There is zero sense in that foolishness.

It's really not, but that doesn't stop them. More & more employers are having you log into your account in the interview & they snoop in it
I personally wouldn't have it. If they want me to work for them, they are going to have to accept me without digging into my private life.
When you need to eat, you do what you have to.
Totally understand that. I'm lucky enough to not starve, I guess.
