They wanna disenfranchise anyone who won't vote for conservatives because conservatives don't regulate capitalism. They'll remove it from POC, from queer people, from women, even from young adults if they think the young adults aren't gonna vote in favor of old white men. It's coincidence that a lot of these people also happen to be superchristians who believe in prosperity gospel.
Oh, they can lose so much more. But so much to gain too, new bathrooms, new drinking fountains, new work (wouldn't call it a job exactly) at the plantation...
Christian Supremacy and White Supremacy Arlington because both of them think that you're better than everybody else and have the divine right to kill people they're bad. Let's not forget that in the end, Jesus tells people that they need to love and obey him otherwise he's going to come back and kill them all up like a fire. Sounds like an abusive relationship to me.
well let's start there and by their rules remove Clarence from the bench. no vote for those with a low refractory index. of course this black man, married to a white woman, voted for a law to ban interracial marriage. of course if you've experienced his wife, that one is completely understandable.
This is the worst Supreme Court in decades, possibly since the Civil War. Everyone pictured above don't care about the Constitution, freedom, democracy, or the highest ideals this country represents; they only want to advance the cause of white Christian fascism, and this nation will be better off when they are all gone and all their decisions reversed and undone by sane, compassionate and empathetic people.
There's a massive smorgasbord of corruption and broken promises offered up by the Republican Party that is now telling you that it's essential they win the midterm election so they can "keep America Safe!"
Safe from what? Republicans are the crooks doing all the pillaging. In our faces. And all the while telling us that it's the Leftists who are doing all the stealing. It's insane. It's unforgivable.
The once-supreme court gutted the Voting Rights Act, allowing red states to gerrymander Black Americans out of government representation. Now they can redraw the congressional voting maps so that all districts have a white majority, which effectively nullifies the Black vote.
They don't care if a supreme court justice is black as long as they hate black people, or a woman as long as they hate women. Their replacements should republicans again get their way will obviously be white men if at all possible, though, for sure.
Honestly, it's not about race, it's just a means to an end. The end result they are looking for is limiting how many people vote for Democrats. Not all whites vote (R) and not all colored people vote (D) but enough do that this system works to accomplish the goal.
The Left are their ultimate enemy and time is wasted figuring out specifically which group they are targeting. Instead of resistance, we check first if our group is the Soup of the Day, find comfort in our exclusion, horror in the inclusion and wonder at why someone else won't fix it all.
More than one thing can be true at the same time. For example, they can be doing this to create a Racial Out Group that is marginalized under the law because they're racist fuckwits, AND aiming to reduce democrat voting numbers.
It can be about race and also other things like despising the non-affluent and being unwilling to pay taxes for things you actually adore and so on. And it is.
If race is inextricably intertwined with the argument, then it is about race. It's like saying "I'm not racist, have black friends, they're law-abiding people. I just don't want crime in my neighbourhood so let's keep the blacks out". Crime is the 'main' argument, but it's not really is it?
If dems ever somehow manage to take back the govt (including presidency), the absolute first order of business needs to be putting 4 more justices on SCOTUS. I believe that only requires a simple majority Then we need an enforcement mechanism/consequences for ethics rules/violations.
Including suspending the filibuster, I think you're technically right. In the case of the supreme court I think it would be worth suspending. It's not a great precedent, but it's already been done for the supreme court (nominations) and that court has already caused exactly the unwanted actions that not suspending the filibuster is supposed to protect: insane partisan policy swings.
The court is obviously a real problem as is, mostly, ultimately because it's so hard to pass a constitutional amendment, which is the only way congress can be guaranteed to override the court, which is something they might have to do if a war of increasing the size of the court continues.
I think another route might be more successful long term. There are a number of republicans on the supreme court right now that have *very plainly* lied in their confirmation hearings. They should be impeached and removed from the court. The court could then remain the same size with justices replaced *and* the idea that justices *should* not be lying sacks of shit reinforced. It would be two wins. Unfortunately it takes a two-thirds majority in the senate, no filibuster involved.
If we could pull that off, then we could make it even better and switch to a model as in Sweden, where supreme court justices are nominated in the first place not by politicians in the executive office, but by jurist peers.
You can get rid of a scotus judge without a two thirds majority in the Senate.
First, you initiate impeachment against a Republican judge. Simple house majority. Next, judges don't have executive privilege so they can be forced to testify under oath in front of Congress. Said Republican judges are going to lie under oath and or refuse to answer questions, which is obstruction of Congress.
DOJ indicts and arrests the judge which removed them from the bench since you cannot judgify from jail.
I mean I wouldn't mind if it went that route. Can't say it sounds quite technically correct myself, but it's not like I'm a constitutional scholar, and obviously people are cutting corners around here anyway.
He has unlimited power thanks to the position he's in and regularly takes bribes from them. They support him as "One of the good ones" because of the power his position grants. They could oust him, but having him there gives "legitimacy" to their "it's TOTALLY not about race, even the black guy said so!"

At least one of them would have red or purple robes. They've been at it for years and gotta have ranked up in that time.

It's actually much worse, and a bit more subtle: "Go ahead and vote all you want, it doesn't matter any more."

I'm pretty sure that isn't an item on the list. There's enough fascism there. We don't need to invent stuff.

In addition, Congress by themselves can punish people with jail for obstruction.
