Yes, the slim attractive girl walking around with the underwear showing above the shorts would never have anyone who talks to her 🤔

Any idea what with them showing up every few panels? Referring to the author's other works?

Am I the only one who didn't go to a high school with cliques?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you were a social chameleon the cliques might not have been obvious. I got along well and hung out with everyone, so I never noticed them, but talking to other people who went to high school with me they remember them clearly.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didn't like anyone 🤣

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ok. immersion broken. everyone talks to her lmao. Jokes aside, this was super cute and well done.

There are couple more pages of this on https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/goth-girl-the-jock/list?title_no=764411&page=1 For those who are interested.

This all makes me think maybe the artist has never met a goth girl/woman irl. I don't get why she seems like a puppy more than a human being.

Japanese dating game character trope. It’s a whole thing.

Gotta love the cameos from the artists other work.

Is my imgur messed up or are the comics really out of order with numerous duplicate panels scattered throughout?

"Hi there, remember that time you showed me love and affection? OoOp, I'm here to stay now. I got feelings! That's how it works! You showed me HUMAN KINDNESS. Something I'm not used to, but hey! You did it, you fucked up. I'm your problem now~"

ROFL Merryweather comics are hilarious I couldn't stop laughing when I realized this is all emotional manipulation.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is cute but the premise is a bit unbelievable that nobody would talk to a girl dressed like that and rumored to be sleeping around for favors. Pretty sure every jock in ten square miles would be her "friend." I'll be awaiting the next chapter.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

It goes both ways. The same jocks who're calling her nasty and insulting her would likely leap at the opportunity for a quickie if she offered it, then go right back to ignoring her in public and denying everything. Bullies, and teenage bullies who have social sway especially, tend to be pretty irrational and hypocritical by default.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Of course it's Merryweather!

3 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 2

Was just thinking that. Big fan of their appearances on the down the rabbit hole guy's twitch streams

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Did he just shoot her?

Oh man I forgot about the glueten disc alien family! That’s a throwback!

I misread the last panel as *Blam!* and the pen looked like it was a gun. Was thinking, "What a twist!"

"There's a goth girl who sits next to me in school." *shot of breasts* "I wonder why nobody ever talks to her." *shot of midriff*

Welcome to anime. Seems like even non-pervy shows and manga introduce their female lead tits or thighs-first more often than not.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeaaaa introducing a schoolgirl tits first is uh.. 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Very impressive. Captured the feel of High School; nailed the dilemmas of the outcasts, the Jocks, their friends. Artistic ability was shown in an impressive matter. Despite having been out of high school much much longer than I was in it, I was completely transfixed. +1

3 years ago | Likes 317 Dislikes 11

You guys schools sound so fucking toxic...

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read this before and i still scrolled the whole thing. Good shit.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I think the whole jock/goth/nerd/etc thing is only in TV shows and movies. I never saw it in HS, no one I know saw it in HS, and my kids don't see it. Maybe it's different in Hollywood California.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

It was totally a thing for me, 80's kid

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man my high school experience has never matched this at all. It was not very cliquish and most people just got along. I am sure there were some people that felt like outcasts but we didn’t organize ourselves by interests or extra curricular a very much. I know a kid that did sports, played MTG and was in choir. I did sports, drama, and was AP. We had rodeo and ag kids that also did art. I knew a kid in a goth emo band that did FBLA. I’ve never been able to relate to this version of High School

3 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 2

That's great for you dude

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's really weird, a couple of the schools I went to definitely had cliques going around, but I kinda mingled amongst all of them. Got along with the Goths, Jocks, Anime Nerds, Art Nerds, Gaming/D&D nerds. However even though I didn't feel the kind of pushback that's shown in these kinds of stories, they seriously resonate with me. I was crying as I read through this whole thing, although maybe it's the loneliness I'm relating to rather than the discrimination.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Same. There were popular kids, but they weren't mean to others. Some kids got bullied for sure, but that was more personality based (likely bipolar or high functioning autistic now that I've learned a little) and they just didn't like a person for being "weird". And those bullies were more likely the smokers out back. Nobody would be told not to talk to someone because they had different interests, nobody cared. But nobody was alone unless by choice. Even the bullied kids had friends.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your school must have been special..

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t know man, it was just a public high school in a small city in rural America. Didn’t feel special.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The clique thing has been less and less prominent over the years.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I sure hope this is true. I don't have a way to verify it, but I want to believe it.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it's thanks to the internet, honestly.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds like you were very lucky. Where I'm from there aren't even jocks/cheerleaders etc, but there was still a very clear line separating the popular cliques from the outcasts. And in further irony, I was both the jock and the goth (in the sense that I had no-one for much of my life, and was also the one who went out of his way, despite being an introvert, to help others and be friends with them - people even more cast out than myself, and I didn't care.)

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I had a similar experience. My school did have cliques but they're kinda a mix of just plain financial class and geographic location. The 'jocks' were rich kids from town. There were rural farmer clique, poorer outcast clique. And then there were druggies. (Everyone did drugs but their clique kinda did harder drugs.) I was a richer town kid but hung out with rural folk due to interests and outcasts due to music. Got along with everyone but was also a loner by choice quite often.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There were a few of us that were instrumental in supporting those who felt they had no other support. It was reputational suicide, but you are right - we didn't care. We made a difference to other outcasts and all of them who ended up not taking to drugs or suicide - we considered our rewards. I hope they are still doing okay.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I just want to be absolutely clear - any reputation I had was of the vicious mockery variety, I just happened to know a few people even less fortunate and we became a little band of weirdos. And by and large, I was the catalyst for most of those friendships starting. I've lost touch with most of them, sadly, but I do hope they are doing well.

NOOOOOO!!! WHY DOES IT END THERE?!?!?!!?!??!?!?! I NEED MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why is the goth girl drawn so lude. It's like the author thinks that's what goths wear day to day?

3 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 4

Touch grass if you think this is lewd.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

Gotta get the likes and subscribes somehow. Sad girl that no one likes but is super hot is the most popular trope.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Nah, Merryweather is just weird like that.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The artist is AT2. Merryweather is the writer.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Writer tends to direct the artist, like 90% of the time it's the writer's comic the artist is just contracted for the drawing. And a high percentage of Merryweather's stuff has artists who like to draw on the lewd side.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but those artists also draw as lewd outside of Merry's works. It's more that they teamed up because it's a good fit, not one dictating the other.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're asking that of someone who makes porn of Minecraft Steve.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't know that. I don't even know who minecraft steve is tbh

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's the protagonist of Minecraft. He doesn't usually fuck the NPCs in the game.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this feels like the kind thing that, while its now super cringy, wouldve been really deep an meaningful to me as a teenager.

3 years ago | Likes 186 Dislikes 13

A more crude way to say this would be r/Iam14andthisisdeep, but it also has this creepy "Nice Guy" feel over it.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

To be polite, the artwork style is not meant to target us. Breaking free of social group thought is a constant struggle for everyone though, not cringe. Comic just feels cringe because everyone is drawn like Ken and Barbie so it feels extra fake and forced.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It seems in half of them she's either got clinical co dependency issues or she's a puppy. Hard to tell which.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

The high school experience itself is cringy, so anything high school related will have some percentage of cringe.

3 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 1

But you're our star quarterback, Tyler!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep. I felt like this is what you think human interaction looks like after too much anime.

3 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I had friends that didn't want me hanging out with others cause they had beef or thought they were weird.

"Violence is never the answer." Because this turned into an after school special / Adam West Batman episode.

Violence and the threat of it makes the world go around.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It better. Otherwise *clenches fist*

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The point was to show that guy's hypocrisy. He said violence is never the answer but pretended like words cannot be violent. Everyone in this cartoon is being violent toward Ophelia. But somehow Tyler throws a punch and he's the first violent one in the story? B*******

...do people really think cute goth chick's in skimpy cloths be getting picked on in high-school? That's kinda where this falls apart. Both of them are attractive.

3 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 9

Bullying is irrational on its face. Kids will literally invent reasons to pick on each other if they're so inclined, or fixate on the most meaningless, benign facets of a person to tear apart. Besides, this story presents the reputational damage of the girls spreading rumors about Ophelia being the core issue; the Goth aspect is just extra oddness. Plus it's not like being attracted to someone prevents abuse or mistreatment. Look at all the racists who are into interracial stuff.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its only fairly recently that goths became the 'in thing' and mainstream to like, if you aren't a younger zoomer then theres a good chance goth kids were considered weird in your school days.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It used to be the norm 20 years ago. It's still highly regional, and that goes for all stereotypes really.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I work with teens. Goth is accepted if not outright cool where I am, even if a little fringe. Lots of kids draw, like anime, and love Hot Topic. It was coming in when I was in hs over a decade ago, on the other side of the country, and it's pretty steady even now. Meanwhile, I had no idea who was on my school sports teams, and I don't think anyone else did either

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Did you just not go to high school? Or did you totally forget how cruel virtually the whole class is to everyone else due to peer pressures?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It really does happen, though. I wasn't even all that "weird." Just a little overweight, likely a bit adhd, and lacked a certain depth of social skills at that age. As a result, I was often actively shunned. Some of my female contemporaries were often treated worse. In a large enough schools, we might all find ourselves and pool together into a friend group, but smaller schools lack this safety net.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Also: the jocks ostracising their star quarter back? Not realistic. IT's the QB that's the leader of the pack.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Kids are cruel. She's weird, different. Different is scary and should be excised....

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

No?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Kids are dicks, and high school kids are no different. Not sure how accepting the high school scene is like now but 15 years ago yeah, she'd 100% be an outcast for being goth.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really really depends on where you went to school and the density of goths. Somewhere in a big urban area, sure it’s not realistic. Goth somewhere in the suburban or rural south, it’s a different story. Teens are cruel regardless and the goth as attractive and desirable in the mainstream is relatively new and definitely not what many goth / punk / metal kids experienced in the 90s / 00s

3 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

Yep. I switched high schools between 10th and 11th grade, from Seattle to rural Pennsylvania. Reactions... differed.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

8th to 9th grade from rural Pennsylvania to backwoods South Carolina got kicked out of a school district for defending myself against the principles nephew who attacked me.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I want to add that, it doesn't always seem to be for any reason. It can just be because someone popular just doesn't like that person, and then picked out a trait. In fact, for this story.. It's likely that she IS attractive. The clue being the rumour of "sleeping with a teacher" being spread by the girls. The popular girls just don't like her.
