Paying taxes is never the problem! The problem is if not everyone pays at least their fair share, and if the taxes don't go to common services like healthcare, education, transportation, and to those who really need it who can't provide for their family even when they really really try

$40k is more realistic. He'll owe around $30k in federal taxes and lose around $30k in gas, maintenance, and degraded value of the vehicle. Since I'm doing rideshare (among other gigs) myself, I'll add that you'll also have to eat out more often, and even a biggie bag is more expensive than eating at home.

As a Truck Driver, $100k on 1099 (self employed taxes) for an 84 hr week is a suckers deal. I was making over $75k on sub-70hr weeks (Truck Drivers are limited to 70hr in 8 days) as a Company driver (meaning: W2 for taxes, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401k, gas and maintenance is paid by the company, as is route planning and troubleshooting). I also got paid by my 1st company to get my CDL, rather than going through a $3000 6wk school.

I just took the test without any school or company (I grew up on a farm) and now they're trying to pass a law here that invalidates my license because I didn't go to a school, it's my understanding that it's an attempt to bring MT in line with federal standards.

My god that isn't inspiring at all. I make more than that working ~15 hours per week on my sofa at home. I couldn't imagine the stress of 84 hours driving Uber.

What does he spend it on? Assuming he sleeps for even 6 hours, that's still only 6 hours a day to do anything else. Eat, bathroom, anything... AND he works 7 days a week so there isn't even a "he does fun stuff on his weekend!" And since it's Uber, we know he doesn't get PTO...

Recovering Uber driver here, I used to stop at gas stations. But then again I didn't drive 84 hours a week, or even 12 hours a day.

nightmarish. I do uber and doordash and it's side money, yeah, but you get fucked on taxes, gas, car maintenance etc not to mention the safety risks (car crash, assaulted at destination or on the way etc). the idea of working double a FT week at such a draining job just to make less than a regional manager pushing files around in an office somewhere... aauugghh

Yeah, I stopped after a delivery where someone damaged my rear bumper enough to pop a tire. I had to call roadside assistance and they wouldn't cover me because it happened right after I dropped off, so technically didn't qualify. You have to be on an active order.

That's ridiculous! I can't believe how Uber screws over drivers as well as riders. It's shameful thing
