This last year or so has been, honestly probably the worst of my life. It's not really getting better either.
I've been fighting tooth-and-nail to get at least 50/50 custody of my kids (I honestly don't think mom is a good, stable parent for them). I went into debt getting a lawyer, and the courts just finally set a trial date, since she refuses to budge on the custody that heavily favors her. It's not until next year. So it's another 10 months at least of barely seeing my boys and not seeing a daughter at all.
My oldest has been living with me since she got into a second physical altercation with her mother in December. She's been doing better but she started self-harming again recently. I just found out today.
Money's been tight lately because work's been slow on hours. Short days sucks, especially when there are multiple in a single week. I've been selling my Warhammer models, donating plasma, and doing pretty much whatever I can to make some extra money, but my bills are more than my income without working overtime.
Oh, and my girlfriend broke up with me in January pretty much because it was "too hard" to love me. So that's been a great feeling. Not super helpful when she texts me every few weeks to tell me she's thinking of me or I'm "heavy on (her) mind" or to tell me about a dream she had about me. Makes it pretty hard to get any distance, and I can't even just block her number because she still has some of my favorite shirts.
Overall I'm just not doing great at all. Everything feels like it's crumbling. Not that there was much of a foundation to begin with. I'm just complaining. It's nice sometimes to get this kinda stuff off my chest. My bad lol
On the plus side, I met a cute guard at one of the sites I work at. She said my name is lovely, and later I asked my friend, who is her boss, about her. She (my friend) talked to her about me and she asked for my number, I guess? I haven't heard anything yet but I'll be hopeful for a few days longer.
TL;DR life sucks but maybe there are good things sometimes.
Tell me how you met your partner

My ex broke up with me and kept calling and texting and sending me pics and I said to her "I think it would be better for me if you never contacted me again". She never did and its been better. You should be able to get those shirts (today) and move on. Best of luck friend!

She said she could drop them off on the 9th, soo... I guess we'll see.

As an adult child who still at the age of old, even after a decade of being a counselor, i still deal with issues left from my childhood, please keep your children in mind

My kids are the only real motivation I have left for anything.

Question as a non parent: Isn't the lack of custody, during this financially difficult time, a good thing?
DadBodKratos
A big reason for the financial difficulty is due to lawyer fees, missing work for court dates, etc.

Could this new girl get pregnant, causing additional custody hearings?
DadBodKratos
I honestly have no idea if you're being serious or not

But, seriously, focus on your kids for now. They need you. Dating costs money and takes the focus away from your kids. You can date later in life. I'm glad you are working hard to get your kids out of a bad situation.

Yeah, objectively I know that. It makes me feel admittedly a bit selfish wanting someone in my life for me when my life is such a mess.

It's not such a mess. It is a rough patch that you will get through. You are a dad. Once you are done being a dad, you will grow as a person. After the growth, you will stop picking women based on nice boobs. Then your children will have the best dad and maybe a wonderful step mom after you have raised them to be great adults.
