There has been a suspicious decline in diagnoses of retardation in the past century.
poscduke
We just need to start the conspiracy theory that it's caused by microplastics and CO2
ActionJohnnie
Correlation is not causality. Overlap the grap with numbers of homes connected to the internet.
HoochIsCrazzy
Also, we are increasingly creating a world enviroment that is hostile to people on the autism spectrum so more people are showing the symptoms

There's an epidemic happening... it's not autism, it's stupid.
Strategicgnomer
Did America start putting lead back in it's gas or something?
Boblemoju
Been ravaging the population for hundreds of years. no cure found yet.
classynurse
im afraid theres a high percentage of people who really have to personally fafo/be personally impacted to realize.
sinb
It's the other way around, autism causes vaccines. You have to be really smart and focused to be a researcher so being on the spectrum helps.
SacrificialClam
You know where she fucked up? Saying "as an epidemiologist"
You gotta say "as a stay at home mom with 6 kids...."
KatInTheCorner
Yeah, because back in the day they used to just stick us in a home and leave us to rot, drugged to the point where we slept all day. Or they lobotomized us. They didn't even try to give us the correct diagnosis because they didn't care, they just wanted us out of their hair.
To this day, professionals have no clue what they're looking for, and mostly they want to cure us... Because they still just want us out of their hair.
Snooj
The most annoying part of the CDC doing another study is that it will change nothing. The people who believe in vaccines will say "See? We told you so!" and the detractors will say "I bet the CDC was paid by pharmaceutical companies to say they're safe". Explain to me what is the point of another study because I don't see one.

one of the best sites i've ever seen on the topic: https://www.howdovaccinescauseautism.com
you're welcome. :)

I clicked this link thinking, "stupid mofos", and was very happy. 😂
cybergeek
it's *impossible* to safely recommend it without giving away the joke, and that makes me sad - thanks for actually clicking through, at least :)

Republican Science: We'll keep studying this until we get the results we want and then stop
Dracology
Could it be the pollution in the air we breath and the stuff we eat and drink? No no it must be the rigerously tested vaccines instead!
Bandlith
I am on the spectrum. Going through school around the millennium I wasn't a concern since I did well in class and wasn't misbehaved, so I wasn't pegged as a "problem". But I have socializing problems and environment sensitivity, but I got through, without support, and it was challenging. And today, its still very challenging navigating society and work norms.
WastingEvenMoreTime
I know it's been said before, but I believe that autism causes vaccines.
ThingsThatDontJustifyGenocide
Microplastics cause autism.
Also, later child-conception, too.
The solution is to give people better lives so they feel able to have kids at younger ages, and also to draw and quarter every single oil executive after making their positions legally considered crimes against humanity
Dappin
This is ridiculous. As an autism specialist I’ve been following the causes of autism for years. It’s genetic with some environmental influences: maternal inflammation during pregnancy, exposure to freeway pollution, exposure to agricultural pollution are all risk factors. So is the father’s age- older fathers are a risk factor. The research is already out there: https://beincharge.ucdavis.edu/presentpublish.php
mooseablethenok
The syndrome that was only recognized and diagnosed in the 40s is being recognized and diagnosed now that more people are aware of and can recognize and diagnose it and now there are more people with the syndrome? HOW COULD THIS BE IT MUST BE VACCINES.
DocFunkenstein
I, for one, am still waiting for when the evil woke libtards are going to push the button to trigger the mass genocidal weapon they placed in the Covid vaccine.
Or did JFK come back from the dead and invented a cure for the vaccine and I missed it?
moleclaw76
You need the red pill! Wake up sheeple! 😂😂😂😂❤️
OtterlyMagnificent
No see, they're waiting until all of the hair dye soaks out the deadly parts from their people first.

It's coming any minute now, along with Andy Kaufman and Jesus.
HoochIsCrazzy
Andy did you hear about this one?
JiffyGee
Nah, it’s triggered by the space lasers. We gotta get Mercury in retrograde first.
IhopeyougetstageIIIcoloncancer
The reason autism rates are rising is human empathy.
50 years ago, if you said "I have difficulty communicating, and some environmental factors make it difficult for me to concentrate, and I get irritated the way some people talk to me without considering my needs", the medical diagnosis was "quit bein a fuckin pussy, ya queer".
Somewhere along the line, we decided that there might be merit to considering the validity of lived experience and engaging with it.
PhailRaptor
If you go back farther than that, it was "Old John Boy is definitely a strange one, but he takes great care of the sheep so we let him be" and "Madeline sure struggles to keep it together in a conversation, but she can churn butter for hours without a care in the world." There's also that little link to the "stolen by the Fae" myth that lines up perfectly with how anti-vax moms describe that their child was "stolen" from them by autism.
SeekerOfFire
Its because autistic people are undesirable. We always have been a stain on any family we are born into. I imagine if we could be reliably identified before birth, the pro-life crowd would be much smaller. Everyone hates us.
VinnyKneecaps
But this time, the report will be released from the angle of there being no evidence vaccines don't cause autism in proper conspiracy fashion. Brought to you by Carl's Jr.
mondomar
I think awareness is the biggest reason for the rise.

When did VACCINE become a bad word?!
PhailRaptor
When RFK Jr's brain worm became the head of the National Health Organization

When it's on Shitter.

You know, I recently learned that I and basically everybody else has microplastics in my brain. Plastics didn't exist one hundred years ago. Maybe study that.
LordofGoats
I've wondered about that for years. Seems like it would be a pretty likely thing to cause changes to brain development in utero.
miniaturegiraffeplease
100%. Maybe that's what is causing autism. And spiking cancer rates.
ThrowingSchadenfreude
It is. Microplastics (many plastics in general) cause endocrine disruptions, chronic inflammation, and generate reactive oxygen species that damage cells. The ROS & inflammation directly damage cells, spurring increased cell turnover & opportunities for mutation. The endocrine disruption can fuel growth of various cancers. Animal studies have shown microplastics exposure correlates with increased incidence of tumors in the digestive tract, lungs & skin.

100y ago little johnny was 'a bit wierd' or 'just likes it quiet' or 'just likes routine work' or a dozen other things. Neurodivergent behaviour wasn't a diagnosis.
DidItForScience
Can someone do me a favor and start a rumor that microplastics have been causing autism all along?
Katalyst81
tell the stupid women Autism is caused by microplastics and climate change, maybe then we will see shit get done.
Salpinus
I just don't get how they think the fuckton of pollutants we surround ourselves with, the carcinogens, pesticides, herbicides and PFAS, dioxins, siloxanes, parabens and so on and forth are just going to get a free pass, but somehow vaccines are to blame. Nad sure many of these things alone have safe limits, but it's nigh impossible to test for cocktail effects with all of them. But somehow vaccines are to blame. It's numbingly stupid.
donutposse11337
Right? They’re ready to believe a false narrative about faking the moon landings. But when there’s actual evidence the oil industry had a collective strategy and purposely lied about plastic recyclability to get plastics widely adopted, when we still can’t recycle them efficiently or cost-effectively to this day 50 years later. When that actual thing happened and is documented, they keep stuffing their balls and their children with the resulting micro plastics.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
Plenty of men believe it too. The dad of that girl who died is still telling people not to vax their kids. Being right-wing is one of the biggest predictors of being anti-vax, and LOTS of men are right-wing.
moleclaw76

RunawaySpoons
Yeah but that stuff's hard to tackle and means inconvenience in their daily lives. Vaccines are convenient bogeyman, easy to avoid with no immediate inconvenience (not including when their kid is killed or permanently disabled by a preventable disease, but they believe it'll never happen to them).
OtterlyMagnificent
Very nearly every Conservative 'boogeyman' is like that. Easily avoided or even ignored entirely. But if they ignore it, they can't get their voter base terrified to vote for someone better.
Hercules99
"I'd rather have a dead kid, than one with autism"
Xcallion1
This argument works under the assumptions that they think vaccines work for their stated purpose or that deadly diseases are deadly. Most of them do not think that vaccines do anything at all other than implant microchips/cause autism. Most of them don't believe that deadly illnesses like the measles are actually deadly.
monkeydwolfwood
I hear this here was what I remember of their answer. Basically the soul would be recycled to a "good" body.
HoochIsCrazzy
when did reincarnation become a Christian doctrine?
monkeydwolfwood
Can't be rational with people like that
BumpusMcPhumpusAngeletes
That and “I’d rather your kids die than take the risk of having a kid with autism”
DumpingSh1tandBeingKind2
It really is their logic, it's heartbreaking and disgusting 😔
moleclaw76
As an AuDHD gen xer, this thinking is simultaneously familiar and horrifying. X
myotherusernameisalreadytaken
Burying a child is cheaper than raising it. Plus, you can easily use the dead child for a "Go Found Me" campaign.
OtterlyMagnificent
Not just with autism either. It's always 'I'd rather have a dead kid, than a ___ kid.'
...My parents were ok with the autism. They weren't ok with my big brother being gay, they're not ok with me being trans, and they're not ok with me living 1600 miles away...
IHaveGreatKittenRecipes
I feel like that last thing is somehow marginally related to the other things but man, I just can't quite put my finger on it.
Signed - Moved 1800 miles away and the rancid pustule followed me to my new town.
bamcobra
Apparently they are upset about you being 1600 miles away because it makes it difficult to beat the trans out of you. My sympathies internet stranger.
Flodos
We're self-censoring the word "vaccine" now..?
PhailRaptor
If she works anywhere in relation to the government, then probably, yeah. They started mass deleting documents that contained the prefix "trans". Which could have been anything from "transformation" to "transistor".
MapleSyrupMafia
It appears to be in Shitter, so it's probably an insta-ban word.
billstranger
Do you mean Shitter, the free speech platform, run by Elon Musk, the defender of free speech? Shirley you jest?!
KatInTheCorner
You've got to think of it less as self-censorship and more as evading the algorithm that will shadow ban anything that doesn't support right-wing bullshit.
I teach sex ed and when I used to be on Facebook the difference between the reach of my straightforward posts versus the ones I worded to dance around the algorithm was staggering.
The difference between three people seeing the straightforward post and a hundred+ seeing the dancing post.
