Hello, my lovelies. Welcome to the dog show (that's what I called it, right?). It's exceptionally late, and I am less than lucid. I was a bit of a long Saturday and it took more time than I would've liked to get to the kitchen. Nonetheless, time is of the essence! Let's dig in to today's dog before the clock strikes midnight, eh?
Today marks the arrival of the Czech Dog! While it's named after Czechia here, it seems that this configuration of dog is common among the entirety of western Europe - France, Austria, Netherlands, and Germany seem to all have similar styles, among others.
I'll be honest, I had a whole baking project planned out for this, with blackjack and hookers, but as mentioned, I didn't really have all that much time. If it's all the same with you, I think I'll use a store bought roll this time around.
Fortunately, google image search gave me an idea of what the rolls are supposed to look like. It seems to generally be any baguette-esque roll, so I found some nice mini-baguettes to use. Let's get to work!
Starting with them wieners.
Once again, I'm grilling two. I figure I'll be splitting the baguettes in half for this, so I may as well.
Lovely!
Now onto that baguette.
First we'll bisect it,
Then, with a small knife, I'm attempting to carve a proper hole into them. When I made the Hawaiian Dog, I made the hole a bit too large. A mistake I SHAN'T MAKE AGAIN!
HUZZAH!
And before I forget, I'm butter butter in the oven.
Alright, already assembly time! Like so many dogs before, I'm slathering it with ketchup and mustard.
As a quick aside, it occurred to me that I didn't properly explain my feelings on mustard last week. I do indeed enjoy mustard on burgers, sandwiches, and hotdogs, but only really when accompanied by other condiments. I'm not sure why, honestly. I guess I wouldn't like mayo on its own as a topping either. Oh well.
I seem to have encountered some resistance. The hole is too small...I'm going to attempt a manual override...
((Visual Reenactment))
VIOLA!
So, how does it taste?
Honestly, this tastes very similar to the Hawaii and Norway Dog. Different buns aside, it's essentially a normal hot dog with ketchup and mustard.
Unfortunately, where the Norway Dog had the potato-based lompe and the Hawaii Dog had the pineapple sweet roll, this one truly has nothing significant - kinda like the China Dog. It is a buttered baguette, which is always nice, but even the France Dog had shredded gruyere! I have nothing to really comment on this time. This is about as standard as it gets as far as hot dogs are considered. Good, but not great.

That's it for today, and two minutes to spare! THE LEGEND NEVER DIES! MWAHAHHAHHAHA!! Mmm, yes well, I hope you enjoyed reading. Have a fantastic weekend, folks! I'll see you next time!

The Michigan one is the standard regional coney dog. Most commonly with onions also. Sold all over the state at mainly at "Coney Island" style restaurants which are generally a diner style that combines American and middle eastern favorites as well as an all day breakfast menu. Great places.
indomara
Yay you're here! It was a long day here as well, it's the wee hours now and it was lovely to see your hot dog adventures right before bed. ❤️

I wonder what this would be like, if that baguette was turned into garlic bread first? Even "light" garlic bread.
lrkrnd
That’s a bit like the standard dog you get in every busy European city. That’s no Haute Dog
muddiekins
Hey @op, whenever you get to the Filipino one, that rice could be garlic fried rice for a better experience. My fam also always had tomatoes in vinegar with patis on the side and I typically ate all this at breakfast. I would confirm with other pinoys, but you could probably sub in a hot link if you don’t have an Asian store or product availability near you.

Typical for the Czech Republic (I am Czechian Republician :)

Wow the most vanilla hotdog of hotdogs 😬 love that I genuinely had had your mustard comment on my mind all week, thanks for clarifying on that!
GravyEducation
I love a good dog with ketchup and mustard but yo why are we even sitting in the bleachers for this it's just like a normal hot dog! Jk I love Swissy
DrDadJokes
I just want a picture of a goddamn hotdog
GravyEducation
Oh shit I'm gonna double comment! So I got this really good pico and guac from the store for a quick meal at my ma's, of course one man can't eat a family size serving of chips etc (or... can he? No no he cannot) so I left it, had to bounce. Texted the whole fam like "that guac is gonna be sketchy but the pico will only be better by tomorrow" and my momma texted me her meal
HillOfBeans
Ma has class, eating her bomb-ass mexi-dog on a pretty china plate.
GravyEducation
Haha I was just rereading my comment twenty minutes ago and was actually like "dang ma that's a good plate job!" I was too caught up in my warm fuzzies that she actually ate the stuff I got! My brother never does that. Food is to be shared and when someone doesn't eat the food its like "well fuck me, I got/made this for both of us." My step dad might have done the real work, he's a really phenomenal cook. Prob dad did the dog and onions and mom plated
GravyEducation
I love you ma! And I also know you're not on imgur because this would be weird if you were
kivioji
It doesn't look right

This is always a highlight of my Saturday night/Sunday morning. Excellent work!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed!

Why is no one else bothered by some of them being "greyed out"!?
asmasm
This is just a puka dog without the flavors
GravyEducation
Hello I would like to give you a normal "feeds 50 people at a gathering" hot dog, only I did extra steps instead of just buying presliced hot dog buns... smh but Swiss did not choose this life, it was thrust upon him
ChickenNuggetNumber05
east germany also has this. kettwurst call they it
dunkum09
friend of mine did this list (or at least a very similar one) a while back. the main thing I remember is that the Argentina dog was best by a wide margin, mostly because chorizo > hot dogs
noWhiteHorseHereJustBatturuPrinsu
Even though I agree if I would ever visit Argentina I wouldn't touch the hot dogs. Argentine beef all day every day.
olivertheoctopus
Growing up, our cafeteria at school would do ‘pigs in a blanket’ at least once a month. Essentially just a hot dog cooked inside a roll. Those things were the absolute shit. l lived for pigs in a blanket day. But I was also 6, so a basic-ish hot dog was my jam. These days, we do “fancy” versions at parties where they’re rolled up and baked in pilsbury crescent roll dough. Anyways.. this reminds of that. It’s basic, but sometimes it hits the spot, especially if the bread is freshly baked
IDontCareAtAllButIShould
Time to spare makes you US Mountain Time. Don't know what is is in Canada 🍁.
crysalitt
My favorite hot dog isn't even on the list. You should look into icelandic hot dogs.
snone31350
Looking forward to the Michigan. Wonder if you'll be doing Flint style or Detroit style?
sixtimesseven
Missing the Ukrainian ones. Cooked on a burning tank
TheHappyHermit
a Juarez Dog is sort of a mix between a Sonora dog and a Tijuana dog. The better ones I've had have bit of chile con queso and topped w/ bistek/carne asada and grilled onion

A couple points - a proper Czech roll (rohlík) is a fair bit smaller than a baguette, so the ratio of bread-to-dog is a lot lower. The sausage is boiled, there's no butter involved, and no one I know adds both mustard and ketchup - it's either one or the other. Yes, the Czech "párek v rohlíku" (sausage-in-a-roll) is the absolute most basic hot dog you can have.
Snuggelapolous
I don't think that is boring at all. Sometime a simple frank has the best memories. Like a simple plain steamed dog on a semi warm bun with a bit of Mustard and a little league baseball game on a warm summer day. Perfection.
MrSwissroll
Ah, I see! I was wondering why the rolls seemed so much more tube-like in the pictures. Drat, the one time I choose not to boil the dog too lol. Thank you for explaining, good sir/madam. I hope you can forgive me for the butter!
GravyEducation
Swissy does boil em sometimes, I got a shout out in the early dog days for suggesting it since it's the easiest home cook. He was just pressed for time so he did the little grill contraption. We love you Swissy. Go get some naps!
kivioji
I always ask for both
InTheBeginningWasTheNerd
Well, I don't know you, so it tracks.
georgedragonslayer
Ketchup on a dog is rude and uncalled for. Mustard. Add anything else you like. But mustard, not ketchup.
vcgetdown
What is a kolache when compared to this hot dog? I kind of assumed they would be the same or similar but I appear to be mistaken
georgedragonslayer
I have had wonderful kolache sausage rolls. Generally a breakfast type thing. But kolache rolls are defiantly sweet. Weird combo, but it works.
InTheBeginningWasTheNerd
I don't know about the American kolaches, so I can't say for sure they don't do any savoury ones, but a traditional koláč is a sweet circular pastry that's baked with some kind of a sweet topping in the middle. Typical toppings include plum jam, poppy seed paste, tvaroh (which is a kind of a sweet curd cheese), or grated apples. It has basically nothing in common with párek v rohlíku.
