Silver labs are technically a diluted chocolate, it’s a regressive trait in chocolate labs. Also tend to have dry skin issues.
Correct, it's not even a regressive trait it's a mutation on the gene that causes brown coloring. Breeding for this isn' the most reasonable

It's something about an additional gene that dilutes the colour. I think there are equivalents to the silver for black and yellow as well.
The American Kennel Club recognizes them as chocolate but I still love my silver girl even if the AKC doesn't.
