Finland

Just a reminder that this exists. This is exactly why no one screws with Finland anymore. Also this is similarly how the current roommate wars are shaping up.

Everyone forgets that Finland's defeat was imminent and Russia then fought the majority of German forces with no issue. Yeah, real bad ass.

By this logic, the United States won WW2 single-handedly. Fuck reading a book, am I right?

Note to self: Never screw around with Finland.

This is when the name Simo Hayha began striking fear into the hearts of Soviets

Never attack a cold weather country in the Winter. Napoleon learned it, the Russians learned it. USA should beware: Canadian.

I like this. Personally I see no reason why we would go to war from either side. At least for the next 100 years.

One name: Simo Häyhä.

I hate campers.

Not sure if people know who that is

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have Google. ;)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well they need to get their asses on there! Simo Hayha was the baddest fucking sniper to walk the earth

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just overall baddest person ever. Period.

He still holds the all-time kill record for a sniper from any nation I think, too, doesn't he? Like 500+, and all within 3 months or so...

505 in 100 days in well below zero temps using iron sights

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sigh, reason why people dont fuck with finland anymore is cause we don't have anything that interests other countries. Also we lost the wars

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Also didn't this particular "victory" help secure later down the road that while Finland would be downsized you remained a country.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lost sure, but it could have been much worse. Take a look at the former soviet states. Finland could've been one.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

might be, but it wasn't cause of how well we fought against them but cause what happened in europe. That had nothing to do with the fin army

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

but thanks to hitler that didn't happen and russia lost his interest towards us and wanted it to be over quickly so he can race to berlin.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if russia would've extend their attack for 3 to 5 more days we would've been utterly crushed and be like estonia was after war.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the lines held for 3 months because of...

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

we just didn't have the menpower nor ammunition nor food to keep up fighting. We're already running with almost pure willpower for long time

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ya dont actually know how far our resourses were pushd in the war do ya? We were pretty much running out on everything / had already ran out

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know everything Finland had to give, was given during the war. It fought well enough for just long enough. Regardless of other events.

I was under the impression finland had nickle which was rather useful for building certain things. 1/2

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

we had some of it in north, but not that much. Only reason russia was interested in us was the control over the baltic sea and us being 1/2

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

overcocky. After getting estonia etc russia (soviet) lost the little interest they had for us 2/2

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I seem to remember nickle being hard to find by Germany then and it was essential for of their tank production?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it was essential, aswell as swedish iron. Thus we had cooperation with the germany durin winter war. There were still better sources for it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it was essential aswell as swedish iron. However there were better sources for germany for it aswell. We swapped it for food/guns with them.

You all needed food that year as I recall. You were in the middle of what amounted to a slight famine?
