Republicans just don’t believe in science. Eg: My dad (a Republican but former expert electrician) is a flat earther, young earth creationist, climate change denialist, etc with every conspiracy theory against science you can imagine. They don’t want to learn anything. They want a one line talking point that explains everything, even if it isn’t true.

So, I will never stop telling my anecdotal example of this. I was raised in a conservative, bible thumping home. Then I got educated, met lots of people from different places, learned unconditional empathy, and just like that, Im a liberal. It rarely goes the other way, which means conservativism needs to breed to grow their numbers, unlike liberalism which just exists and people move to it.

They also don't make a ton of money, so are not commonly motivated by money.
Of course they're left wing. If they were right wing they'd have gone into politics or business.
Professors are mostly what's left over when you get rid of the financially motivated.

For most, its far less as a professor than elsewhere. My wife would probably triple her salary if she moved from professor of finance to work for one of the big banks that keep trying to recruit her.

As an atheist who did a lot of courses in the religion department for his anthro degree almost everyone there was a "person of faith" in one way or another. Instead of using the texts for confirmation bias (like an evangelical) they were trying to understand the teachings.

That’s not even as shocking as economics being bluer than engineering. I work at a university and that feels 100% bullshitty. Predictably, the closer the concentration is tied to money, the more conservative the faculty. Science and Art have the opposite effect. I doubt this graphic is accurate or the study itself is a big bias bomb.
