Not sure if this helps, but have you considered turning it into a musical?

It took me 3 years to write it. It feels so demotivating to write something not even the mentor will read with full comprehension. Schedule writing every day, but don't be to harsh on yourself for writing bad or too little for a day, you can iterate on it. It's so much easier to improve existing text, than writing new one. Take it a step at a time. You got this!

"...In conclusion radiographic evaluation and interpretation of respiratory disorders in large animals is a very, very important topic we should all know more about. I hope you enjoyed reading this thesis as much as I enjoyed writing it. The end."

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Happened to me. Took me 1.5 years to finish my masters thesis. But I finished and you can too! :)

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Always remember that a good thesis is a done thesis. I've had several students who have gotten blocked at the final step, some of whom were assigned to me after having been stuck for years. It can be really, really hard, and it's okay to acknowledge that. Let me know if you need help working through what the block is.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

In conclusion, they're all good animals Brent. 😁

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You need a bit of motivation. Say, how about this: you finish your thesis, and I'll order you a pizza?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My wife already promised me a sword lmao. Can't top that

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure you can. Now you can get a sword *AND* a pizza. :3 Seriously, try not to get caught up analyzing your own thoughts and emotions. Write!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Step 1) Reach out. Step 2: Credit the helper if they help you beak through. Step 3) Graduate

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If I finished my long-ass PhD dissertation, you can finish your thesis. Remember that no written work is ever "finished", it is just the latest draft. Make a draft you can live with and submit it to your reviewers. Pull that proverbial trigger.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Look at it this way... Are you going to let a few words keep you from working with animals AND getting paid for it? Heck no. It's been a hard road. You got this.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hang in there, you can do this!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just tell them 'My dog ate my paper".

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thesis: Do dogs actually eat homework? An experimental approach

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

LOL, nice!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm glad you've gotten this far @op you can make it just a bit further, for those of us that gave up vet school before we got that far. and just think of all the happy animals you'll get to see over the years, and the people you'll help too.

2 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

I totally am rooting for you OP. It is going to be a hard profession; however it will be rewarding. Helping the voiceless is a commendable virtue.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ho Wolverines! That is a wolverine, right?

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yes, and in captivity, so it knows the limits of people. Don't ever try to play with one in the wild...it'd go about as well as this for you

According to the Internet it's supposed to be easier

Because animal doctors can just do whatever and then if it doesn't work out be like yeah that's a tragedy get another cat I guess

You need to let go, bro, this instinct you have is self-destructive

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Someone doesn't know what a phd thesis is.

2 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 0

Don't be a chode.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Yup, precisely, you've nailed it.
Jesus Christ, they're having difficulty writing an incredibly difficult to write paper which will have little to no bearing at all on their actual duties. Academia often places far greater and more or less unrelated demands on students than they'll see on the job they're preparing for.

2 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 0

And give you barely enough skills to not drown when you actually get the job.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah let's be real, it's kinda weird as fuck that someone would need to write a thesis to become a regular veterinarian (assuming that's what OP is doing).

Like if they were specifically going to be doing research and advancing veterinary science as a whole? Sure. But if they just plan on working at a vet clinic then it seems like they could just not need to do that part but have a requirement for it if they want to go a step higher.

have you tried ai

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Want $20 so you can feed it to chatgpt or claude? I'm not saying use the output, but sometimes a strawman helps vs staring at a blank sheet of paper or screen.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

why?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes you can.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You got this!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Veterinary thesis? Ending? Easy! "...and they were ALL GOOD BOIS!" The end.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nowadays the boring and time consuming stuff can be outsourced. If the actual writing part bothers you, hand this over to ChatGPT. Make proper figures, write notes and bullet points, let the software make it read nice and academical. See that the references are sound, give it to a friend for proofreading and hand it in.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't say it's a perfect answer for everyone, but I did mine largely by getting drunk, slamming words down on a page, and then making it make sense and work properly when I was sober. That way I at least had full pages to work with and had most of the points I was trying to make set down (in one form or another.) Just take care to get rid of *all* he swear words before you defend it.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

^^this is the way.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Surprising this method has worked for me too. I wrote some of my best stuff drunk off my ass as an undergrad. Harder to do nowadays as a married 40 yo.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah once hangovers become a week long event the wind kind of goes out of your sails on that kind of thing.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why's that last step so hard? Writer's block?

Thanks for helping

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@Op's elbow is stuck...

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I'm absolutely shit at statistics

2 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 0

What type of stats are you needing help with?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"In conclusion: 100% of canines surveyed were heckin' good puppers."

2 years ago | Likes 143 Dislikes 1

You need to allow for some degree of error: "In conclusion: 99% - 103% of canines surveyed were heckin' good puppers."

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

"In conclusion: 100% of canines surveyed were heckin' good puppers 99% - 103% of the time."

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I approve this statistic.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If you're having problems with that, your supervisor is not doing their job. They should either be able to help or connect you with someone who can.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I took a statistics course for my PhD, and I had some use of it for writing the thesis.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Statistics is bullshit. Either something happens or it doesn't. The odds of anything happening are always 50%. The odds of something happening that happened already is 100%

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What kind of stats are you trying to do? What data are you working with?

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Do you need any help? I’m getting my phd in information science which is heavy on the stats. The last push is a bitch Im told. Ill be where u are next year.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why don't you use chat gpt to help you with things you need explaining etc. I wouldn't recommend asking it for solutions because it's shit at stuff like that (example 1 woman gives birth in 9 months, 2 women give birth in 18 months, it saw it as a math's problem instead of logic problem), but you can ask what stuff means and ask for examples. And you can ask it to make it as simple as you like without anyone looking you weird.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ask your professors to point you to the right person. They probably either know someone who is capable and willing to help or know what resources and systems are available and in place to help get you to that person.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Have you utilized your schools writing labs? Sometimes, they can give you surprising resources and direction. They may connect you with past students who are willing to help and other professionals.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I got a friend to do the stats for mine. She said "what are you going to do if you decide to go into research?"
(I am very definitely not going into research)
"I'd hire a statistician "

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Im going to hire out I think for mine too. Ive taken all the research methods classes I need to take and some of the process stresses me out. I figure by the time I get to my thesis Im just going to need some help.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can do that. You can just pay someone who works as a maths tutor to walk you through it. No different than having someone check your grammar

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

almost all statistics can be done with some type of python/jupyter notebook. Supereasy to do. DM me if you want me to walk you through it

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Please consider that 50% of the veterinarians are half of them.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*rolls for random statistical gobbledegook* phi testing, you need to do phi tests.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Is there a stats professor at you university you could reach out to for clarification or guidance?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Dumb ass-question, but why does that matter? You are the expert in your field of study, not mathematics? Why do YOU have to do the stats? Get someone else to do/help you with them. All you need are the results. Do you really need to show all your work for each and every step of the way? "Collected data, ran it through , here are the results."

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stats is a form of real world math with applied logic. Its required because you need to understand how to study your own field and how to conduct research within it. Studies are conducted differently in each field. Your question isnt dumb. Pure stats can be taken as like a math class but you also need to know how they are part of research design in your field.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair point. It just feels like if it's going to be a roadblock in getting work/research done then maybe there should be a way to get legitimate help with it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to pass the research methods classes but you can get legit help by paying for the stats to be done or help from friends for the final dissertation. Theres ways around it for the final stuff.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

R studio is your friend

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

R sucks for most statistics. Python with Jupyter notebooks are a lot more convenient AND don't start counting their indices at 1 like some lunatics....

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But those require me to learn Python lol. As an ecologist, I mostly do hypothesis testing so r works for me and is the fastest way for me to get a p-value. For my Genetics work though it does require me to use python as genetic data can be quite large

Anytime. I wasn’t too bad at stats either. You just have to realize it’s fake math. lol everything fits a gamma curve.
