Michigan law states that you have to be 18 years old to purchase a long gun, and 21 years old to buy a hand gun. They circumvented the law to buy a 15 year old a hand gun. So GUILTY!

Now I don't remember if that's the case still or whether it ever was but I remember where I'm originally from if your kids is under 18 you can absolutely be legally responsible as a parent for their shit. I've done some things back in the day and my parents were pissed not because I did it, but because they would be trailed for it if popos came knocking. They might've been just scaring me straight, though. It's been a lifetime ago on a different continent.

When the kid was 8 or 9, the parents left him home alone on many occasions to go to bars, so yep, they created the monster. He repeatedly exhibited homicidal behavior and they never sought any treatment for him.

I met a kid that went to this school. He literally stuttered when my mom asked what school he went to and said he didn't want to discuss any more. I've never seen anything like it. It was the saddest and most disturbing thing I've seen that wasn't a horror movie.

So in the case of this trial what do you expect them to do? Sue the NRA for manslaughter? I don't disagree the real problem is the gun culture but that doesn't make this a cop out. A weak deterrent is also better than the NO consequences that parents of shooters had to face before. This is one of the baby steps forward that's needed.

The mother could have done more.The question is what will society do NEXT? The kid who is mentally Ill is serving life and the woman could go to prison for 60 years. I wouldn’t sleep any better knowing that’s only 2.4 firearms removed out of 400 000 000. How many people,fit or not,will buy guns because they know nothing is going to change?

I believe there are similar laws like, if your underage kid is drinking at your house you own as the parent and one leaves drunk and kills someone, it's the parents fault. Not sure if this still is a thing or not. This essentially overall is a stepping stone for accountability.

Her son has asked both his mom and dad individually to let him see a doctor and they either laughed him off (mom) or told him to take some pills and suck it up (dad).
