My orange boy comes in at 5-5:15 every single day for his 1 fresh shrimp. This is when I know I can start getting ready for bedtime. I love him so much 💘.

I don't let my kittens in my bedroom when I am ready for sleep for the night. They are too active and will keep me awake. They have accepted it well. However, once they hear my alarm they meow and paw at the door for their breakfast. Now I only need my alarm to go off once because they become the alarm.

My cat would know when it was treat time it was 9pm she knew exactly. At 8:59:30 she'd get up and walk to the kitchen the 30 seconds was the travel time to get to the kitchen. No TV, no patterns from me, no clues. Her sense of time is precise.

I have somehow trained 2 of my idiots that they get treats in the morning right after i feed the fish. I step out of the bath room in the morning and they are there waiting. i cant even sleep late any more with out 2 lug heads waking me up demanding treats. I love them. i'm just bitter about getting up too early.

My dog knows that if I am getting ready for work, his routine is food>potty>small treat>wait for mom to be ready to leave>big treat. He “hounds” me as I’m going through my last steps to get ready before he gets his big treat. He’s right next to me the whole time and if I go back to change my shirt or fix my hair again, he gives a little exasperated doggy sigh. It’s cute. For him, it’s not about the time, it’s about the sequence of events.

My cat wakes me up early each and every day... because that's the time she will get a wet food treat. They're more precise than any alarm.

Dogs can perceive time based on smell (assuming there aren't other timed triggers around those times like your routine, regularly scheduled things happening outside, etc). Smell is usually how they know when their owner typically returns from work and that's why they can be found waiting by the door at the right time. They know their owner typically comes home when their owner's lingering smell from the morning routine is at X% strength.

My dogs wait for me in the living room picture window, but my little soul dog, Archie, knows when I am getting ready to pull up and back into the driveway, no matter if I'm early or late. 5 minutes exactly before I get home, no matter the time, he comes down and waits between the window and the door.

He probably knows the sound of your car coming down the road. But also dogs can perceive time based on smell, like how much of your smell lingers from your morning routine.

I've thought it was the sound of my car for a long time, but my son says that it's really a set set of minutes before I get home, and I'm coming from a very busy road and I'm at least 5 miles away when he comes downstairs. And I think for him it is a strange clock based on smell. The wild thing is he knows if I'm coming home an hour early, or if I'm going to be hours later.
