They can hold their breath for around ~30 minutes. I find it incredible your train of thought immediately defaulted to "I am seeing abuse" without doing any research.
You fucking kidding me right.... train of thoughts....seeing abuse. Who the fuck are you, a distance relative of Dr Freud. This was meant funny, analyze your own overreaction and we can talk again afterwards
Also a snake that size would put up a massive struggle if someone were trying to hold it's head underwater, it would not be still like that. It'd thrash before drinking the water to be able to breathe.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2yQBQJwmCg I mean they don't normally submerge their ENTIRE heads but they do drink like that. (Sidenote Pecos Hank is the best of the best)
Snakes have a see through scale that covers the eyeball. They have no need to blink. Sneks can drink by using their body's muscles to suck in water. Hence the mouth barely moving.
On the contrary. I've cared for corn snakes, rat snakes, king snakes, and ball pythons and have never seen them completely submerge their heads to drink. Of course, I've never shoved their heads into a cup of water for internet points either.
Damn complex taxidermy for the jaw to be moving that way. Look closely- it's subtle, but it's there. Just a goofy snek drinking from an inconvenient container.

Weird looking pump pickup hose you have there
RustedFriend
There's actually someone just out of frame sucking on the other end of the snake like a straw.
NeverEnoughFoxes
When snek, you ARE the straw!
SirNameless
That looks a lot more like a reticulated python than a boa constrictor. The poor baby is probably very dehydrated.

SirNameless
Reptiles can hold their breath for a very long time. I doubt this one is anywhere near drowning.
Thegreenestthumb9
Also a snake that size would put up a massive struggle if someone were trying to hold it's head underwater, it would not be still like that. It'd thrash before drinking the water to be able to breathe.
FinnFann
Yeah surprised how people underestimate animals so much. We might be apex, but a snake that size isn't gonna stay in the cup if he doesn't want to.
donkeystothecastle
I just went down a rabbit hole of videos, of snakes drinking water and no that's not how they do it.
Fishkeeper
This is how they do it when the water's in a cup.

Same. Although he sticks the tip of his nose in, not his whole face

FinnFann
Well they can hold their breath for 30 minutes and they're as much individuals as any of us so...let the snek drink how he wants.
Svereki
This is the way my husky drinks water. And I'm pretty she isn't normal either
Beaverbrown55
If you listen at the other end, it sounds like when you finish a drink and keep sucking on a straw. I don't know how to put that sound into words!
SirNameless
Some snakes do drink a little differently. Could just be a behavioral thing.
sheslikeheroin
One of mine drinks like this l, looks like he's gonna drown. Whole face and head at the bottom of his dish.

sheslikeheroin
Not an innacirate representation! Lol
Ryanator50
I noticed the snake never blinks, and the mouth never moves.
FinnFann
Pay close attention to the bottom jaw at the front. And I'm surprised some people don't know that snakes don't blink.
Ryanator50
I knew that they "smell" with their tongues, and sense vibrations through their chins. excuse me for not knowing everything about snakes.
AimlessSavant
Snakes have a see through scale that covers the eyeball. They have no need to blink. Sneks can drink by using their body's muscles to suck in water. Hence the mouth barely moving.
Fishkeeper
Snakes can't blink, and the mouth does move, just subtly.
Hendlton
Snakes don't have eyelids. That's one of the things that differentiates them from legless lizards.
amismenow
I’ve seen a snake drink like this in person.
nevans88
Same, my ball python drank like that. Not sure why that other poster is talking about.
tic32003
They do when you shove their heads into a cup full of water. Not like they have much choice then.
nevans88
Tell us you've never owned a pet snake without saying you've never owned a pet snake.

The jaw is moving, and snakes don't swallow quite the same way we do.
thatlamer
You don't see the jaw slowly opening and closing?
CaptainBergatron
Yeah it didn't blink once!

Yep.
Feralkyn
It does
DePhyler
I see some movement but it's the eye. It never looks around or blink or squint in the water. It looks like a dead stare to me.
Fishkeeper
Snakes can't blink or squint. No eyelids.
