Think of it as a thermometer for the Stock Exchange
Nasdaq is a separate market. It focuses on technology and growth stocks. (Nvidia, Google, AMD, etc.)
S&P 500 are the top 500 companies by Market Value, determined by the rating agency "Standard & Poors"

Starlink is profitable, SpaceX is probably profitable. Xitter is in there too though, and that is NOT profitable. Tesla is in there too kinda, and that has become very much not profitable either. So his profitable companies are propping up his unprofitable companies. The whole thing is ridiculous anyway. If you haven’t heard already, he manipulated the index fund rules so everyone HAS to buy his stock, and because the valuation is so high its absurd it will make Elon a trillionaire

Two things: SpaceX, the actual space launch company, did 165 launches in 2025, at an average cost of 74 million dollars (2026 pricing). That's 12,21 billion dollars income right there. Take off a lot for expenses, obviously, you'd still keep a few billion, if you have some good accountants.
On top of that, he recently pushed his shitty xAI into the SpaceX company, and supposedly that also brings in some revenue, don't ask me how.
It's insane, I know, but not illogical.
