Kinda glad we ended up with "Slimer" instead of "Onionhead".
GozerTheGozerian
Good times.

We're ready to believe you.
Yasashii93
Honest question: why would you not sit on a movie like that for a few months and release it around Halloween?
Pasquinelthe2nd
Because more money's to be made in the summer box office (especially close to Memorial Day). October 84 was a dumping ground, except for the surprise hit THE TERMINATOR. Followed in Nov by NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

I always thought Gozer was Pat Benetar when I was a kid and only found out it wasn't after looking it up years ago.

@op one of the best movie posters ever
TheMoonBnuuy
#1 they had to use someone else's voice for Gozer because the musician they had playing Gozer had such a thick accent Bill Murray thought that when she said "choose and perish" that she was saying "Jews and berries"
CouldntCakeLess
Never stopped ruling, this one. They don't make them that good anymore. Sadly.
Columbus43219
There is a series on netflix called The Movies the Made Us, and the story behind most movies we love is a shit show that barely squeaked through to the theaters. Somehow, those are the ones that have enough love of the medium to shine through.
Darkwell
They didn't make 'em that good immediately after. Lightning in a bottle.
astrangehop
I honestly thought ii was really really good. Not A++, but A for sure

I miss the days of matte paintings.

#7 Man, a Panavision camera on a Steadi-cam must have been a hard day for the operator.
CambreathdTheSecound
no no no. Ghost Busters is from 80's so at most like 20 years old.... Source I was there when it released... Also, anyone know how to get bulk deals on Ibuprofen

Was anyone else 9 years old when that hand reached up and full on grabbed some beautiful Sigourney breast and then it stirred up things inside of you..?

Christ. Weaver was all leg. Her legs are longer than the rest of her body.
FatBastardVegetarian
This is not the greatest movie ever made. However, it is my favourite movie ever made.
Gish99
It's amazing how this turned into a pop culture masterpiece

#6 Fun Fact!
Contrary to what was stated in the movie, and in order to keep the movie from going over budget, Gozer the Gozerian was actually played by a Yugoslavian model and actress and NOT an ancient Babylonian or Sumerian god-being.

84? I was born in 83 but swear I saw it in theater. It must have been popular enough for a rerelease or a few runs.
Septcanmat
Before VHS movies were rereleased in theatres pretty often.
BARP
The premiere of Ghostbusters took place on June 7, 1984.
Ghostbusters was re-released in the U.S. and Canada in August 1985, grossing a further $9.4 million over five weeks.
You're not crazy :)
WellAckchually
Maybe you saw it in the dollar theater? I'm not sure they exist anymore but we used to have discount theaters that would show films that were long out of the mainstream theaters and would sometimes bring back older hits
lolface
Possibly! It was pretty popular and our group had a lot of kids. The earliest movie I remember seeing at release was Hairy and the Hendersons. Remember that one?
TheGlow
Same. I had to be 3-4, but I KNOW I saw it. But I have no memories really before 9-10, so its odd this one sticks out.
Snooj
Maybe you have no walkin' around core memories from that age but you could certainly have remembered seeing it in the theater at that age.
MisterLuminous
The 80s produced some incredible movies. Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and many more.
ILoveTheChipShop
The fact that so many of todays films are reboots/sequels to 80's movies tells you all you need to know.
LespritDeLescalier22
Who’s kid?
jamesbondq
Bill Murray's first son Homer.

Ah. Thank you

#51 The thing that always bothered me about this scene was that one of the demon hands popping up from the chair very visibly grabs her right breast during the shot, and whereas I'd like to think it was discussed in advance with Sigourney and she was a good sport about it, it *was* the 80's and from the photo all those puppeteers were men... so it just hits a bit more squicky seeing this BTS photo. 😕
Pasquinelthe2nd
Except the hand that grabbed her boob was her husband's. So I imagine she was a VERY good sport about it.
HashMaster9k
See? Fun fact that I didn't even know which makes me not feel gross about the scene anymore! Glad to know that it was her husband.
netutoring
Credit where credit is due... I haven't seen most of these. Also, fun story... Sigourney Weaver got tired of the 'hands' being delicate with her. She just told them to 'go for it'. Because after all these stories I've heard about her....she's, in a very nice way....nuts:)
Septcanmat
Apparently she also did the audition by pretending to be a dog because she didn’t realize that was going to be handled by the effects team.
Pasquinelthe2nd
The one that really copped a feel belonged to her husband. LOL.
TheGlow
I remember I saw this in the movies as a kid. When the ghost popped out in the library I screamed "get me outta here!" and everyone laughed. That's my oldest memory.
astrangehop
Lol. I spilled soda on myself at the re-release of "song if the south"
