This is my brother’s cat, Chance. She’s going to the vet today and there’s an extremely high chance that she’ll be put down. She hasn’t been eating and has lost a lot of weight, and she doesn’t really respond to anything anymore. She’d just lay around, and preferred to lay on dirty clothes or old pillows, at least during these past few days. She’s 15 years old and has been around for the majority of my life, and my brother had gotten her when he was a little kid. She’s the last pet we’ve had that was around when my brother and I were still children. She’d keep trying to stand, but I don’t think she had the strength to. My brother wants her to be cremated, and I’m worried about how he’s going to handle this as he’s depressed and has difficulty with managing his emotions.
I couldn’t go with them to the vet, and I hate myself for it, but I’ve seen so many of our pets die and have held a few as they did so. I know I don’t have the strength to handle it.
Chance was a very grumpy cat who didn’t like being near the other cats, but she enjoyed the presence of people. Even in her old age, she still enjoyed playing, especially with laser pointers. If she’s put down, which again is the most likely outcome, I’m going to miss her so much. I’ll edit this with an update once my mom and brother come home from the vet.
EDIT: She was put down. She was dehydrated, had cancer, and also had fleas. If we brought her in sooner, the vet said it’d just be delaying the inevitable. There was nothing we could do. (1/11/21)
