Edit: First year missed in ages and we couldn’t have picked a better time. For years many burners would float the rumors that BM was closed or was “rained out”, looks like it finally happened.

Last year it was 120+ degrees on the playa floor, this year the lake is in full effect. What crazy times.

You can tune into Burning Man Informational Radio at: https://bmir.org (live stream from the playa).

As of 9am PST (9/3), An update from our camp mates at Titicaca, gate is still closed and theres hope it’ll open some time Monday. Spirits are high and liquor stocks are plentiful so the party must go on!

I also took this year off. Other than the not cleaning of porta potties, it would be fun. I was there working when the gate closed on the first day from rain, 2014ish

The thing to understand is that it’s not mud. It’s wet gypsum. Which acts like concrete mixed with super-glue and fucks up EVERYTHING. U cannot move without it building up on tires, your feet, any surface that it comes in contact with. They’ve never seen rain like this at a Burn, and I’ve been going for 9 years. It’s a real problem and could get dire with zero fresh water and porta-potties not being able to be serviced. I am so relieved i didn’t go. Fck ur Burn. 🔥

Bruning man has turned into Glastonbury.

Naw, that’s Coachella mate. BM isn’t a festival, not in the classic sense of the word mind you. You won’t see the artistic collaborations like you do at BM, and the ingenuity, it’s amazing to behold.

One death so far but " As this death is still under investigation, there is no further information available at this time" the sheriff's office said.

Yeah, deaths happen more often than publicly acknowledged. Most are accident related (on and off the playa) but unfortunately there’s a few with mental needs so it could be anything (just like any large city).

75000 people in the default world for a week has an avg higher deathtoll than 75000 people at burningman.

Sorry, how much rain, an inch? Wow.

enough to turn that dried lakebed into an inescapable mud pit

It’s not the rain at BM that’s an issue, though it certainly could be. It’s the rain everywhere else that flows to the lowest point, like say a lake.

Absolutely true.

I hope their ok and cell carts are being deployed so hopefully you can reach them (try texting, that way the msg is waiting when they power up the cell)

Probably, the only real issue so far is not being allowed to leave till the ground dries enough for cars to move around. So probably leaving tuesday instead of today.

As of right now it’s light rain and forecasted to be 50% chance of rain thought out the day. As long as it remains Sunny and breezy tomorrow it’ll dry out for a Tuesday exodus. It’d a lakebed so the ground doesn’t absorb efficiently, it’ll be the breeze that could really help.

I'm seeing rumors on the staff channels that the burns will happen after all. with the man and temple and at least one large art piece likely burning tonight.

Burning use to be spontaneous and the man didn’t necessarily burn Saturday (it could be a Thursday, Friday or Sunday etc) so this could be a nice return to original spirt of the Man. I love it and thanks for sharing. May they burn bright tonight.

Did they ever get that airplane dance cub towed to the scrap yard yet?

I can’t remember where it was finally hauled off to, it was present at 2019 (etc) but was gone in 2022.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's there now.

They have a local storage site. In Empire iirc.

I had hoped it wouldn’t end up there. Not cool (the downside of the event).

I'm not a fan of the 747 or the people who bring it.

Yeah, likewise.
