Well, this is a Primarch, those are considerably larger than your standard space marine. But it is really well done regardless. :)

My first army was 'Nids. Messing up on them doesn't really detract from their look so it was a good choice! Takes forever to play though.

Nids or Orks are indeed more forgiving when it comes to painting than Marines or Tau. But they're a great place to start. You do need lots.
