… I’m getting obtrusive thoughts to start stealing balls from kids at games so they get to then meet players and get signed stuff. Abusive Santa, they’ll call me! They will fear my deeds and be grateful for them! I … didn’t need that gummy.

She didn't catch the ball. Like, at all. It was never hers. The dad was quick to pick it up. End of story. I don't understand what she's doing here...

Honestly, Dad needed to do more that stand there, get scolded and then cave in.
tarptastic
The look from the Dad? The look from the kid!! He looked so confused and heartbroken. Glad the night ended well for him at least.
anonymous
What I don't understand is why he let her get away with this behavior. Get louder and get in her face until she backs down! But instead he just stands there and lets it happen.
Just look at his submissive posture. She's just an old lady; why is he scared of her? It's BEYOND infuriating! Poor kid is going to grow up to be as big of a loser as his useless father.
TheYoungerLance
When did it become acceptable to physically throw hands on people? Ice seen "you people" questioning his actions & it's laughable.
RelartOfGivia
Well most people don't "throw hands" because they can't. They're not peaceful, they're just incapable of violence and prefer to pretend like they're peace loving. Those that are capable of it and choose not to are actually centered and truly peace loving. However the bullies have picked up on this and more often than not push people around knowing they won't get violent because they are incapable of it. This works to a point. Until they prod the wrong bloke that's had enough.
shorey66
Because he was worried for his kid and wanted the crazy bitch away from him. I would have thrown it back on the pitch
Noahbalboa82
He wants to have a good time with his family, not fight some old bitch over a ball. He picked his battles and the ball wasn't a Hill worth dying upon. The overall game experience with his son is though
Isthe4thtimethecharm
As a male, you have to be very careful getting physical with a woman. Sauce, I had a woman try to fight me one time. Yeah, I agree that if she can throw a punch, she can take one. But that still isn't the same. This one hit me in the mouth, and I just laughed it off. Was more puzzled by how she thought she was tough with a punch like that. If I had punched her back, I would have probably had to deal with the police when she claimed I attacked her. I had two witnesses, but it still wasn't worthit
IncognitoEnthusiast
Seen the video, it was a close grab, but the unwritten rule is whoever gets their hands on it first is the winner. Sure it may have been a shitty grab, she may have even had her fingers on it and he managed to snatch it first, but when he walked over and handed it to his boy that should have been the end. Two adults can squabble over a ball sure, but the kid? Nah man, let the kid have that happy memory.
atoyot
Damn, Bader's got some junk in the trunk.

SamSpayed
I'm sure the signed bat, the goodie package, and the positive reaction from the nearby fans went a long way toward turning that into a positive for him.
eronth
I mean, kinda. I know as a young kid the getting yelled at doesn't get made up by getting a neat bat.
VastMajorityRule
IKR. I can't imagine how that affected him.
Targe0
Yep, trauma is not easily undone.
Noahbalboa82
I disagree. His father deescalated as quickly as possible and got to experience the rest of the game in peace. The kid witnessed a good father that day.
Roganisms
Undoubtedly it was handled well by the other adults, but that kids face and reactions after the fact tell a different story.
Noahbalboa82
Yeah, unfortunately life is full of idiots and you can't change the majority of them. Gotta learn to just deal. He's got a good dad, I'm sure he helped his kid enjoy the rest
IdRatherBeOnThePlaystation
I would have been way more aggressive in defense of my son, that shit is a HUGE trigger for me, I despise bullies.
shorey66
Yeah I'm not sure how I would have handle it but she would not have got that close to my son at any point
Sorcatarius
Not saying I wouldnt react the same, because I fucking hate bullies too, but the situation is likely terrifying for the kid, escalating the aggression might make it more so. Cooler head, distanced from the situation? I think he made the right call, not just for resolving it quickly, because you know hes on camera, the cameras always follows homeruns, so you know theres a good chance the team management is going to see it and they love the chance to buy good PR by making special moments for kids.

Ngl, I had a kid try to rip something they shot into the crowd out of my hand once. I had a kid try to pull a drum stick out of my hands after a concert once, that was around 20 years ago as well. In the end my little sister stole it from me -_-

Dad should have just chucked it back onto the field....
genericimguruser2
Or kept it. And just told the woman to back off, and if she continued being aggressive around his child, she'd very quickly find out what a dad does to protect his child.
Targe0
Or put it down his pants.
That's always the argument ender.
Because either she keeps on and gets kicked out for causing a disturbance.
Or she tries to go in after it, and then you can press sexual assault charges.
Either way, she's unlikely to get the ball.
JRaven419
Then she'll get 3 balls and she'll be out.
MapleSyrupMafia
"Uh oh, this is a ball but not the one you're looking for!"
bottledham
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8odNs_VfZU At 0:45 the ball lands at the woman's feet. As she leans over to pick it up, the dad runs past 12 seats to pick it up too. You can't see who got their hands on it first. What if he did pull it out of her hands?
SomeGuyWhoSaysStuff
It's always hard to tell who is right in these situations, did the dad pull it out of her hand or grab it before her? There's no way to know
nddstgm9gz12
I’ve heard this as well, maybe that’s why he was so quick to give the ball to her later? Maybe they’re both horrible.
SquirtVonnegut
A ball being closer to you does not establish ownership. There's even legal precedence for this. Popov v. Hayashi established that the ball is considered abandoned by MLB once it's in the stands and whoever gains possession of it first is the rightful owner. Even if she caught it and dropped it, that would be considered abandonment of the ball. Legally, it's the father's ball. Culturally, it's also considered bad etiquette for an adult not to give a ball to a child, let alone take it from one.
PipWhipple
So, it's legally "Finders, Keepers" then?
SquirtVonnegut
Pretty much, yeah.
vicvalour
Thanks for the video, the lady was reaching for it over the seat in front of her, it was not at her feet, speedy dad simply grabbed it first, by a long shot
bottledham
Ah yes, you're correct it's in the row in front of her. But I'm not convinced the dad had it first. I'm not saying she did either - just that the video is inconclusive. I don't think the dad leaned over enough to reach the floor. This frame is the lowest dad went:
bottledham
paeches
yeah, the other men were able to give her space to perhaps get a better grip on the ball. seems like dad took the opportunity and made it about his son for social protection. you know she was immediately on his ass. he even closes his eyes when hugging his kid (which looks like kid hasn't ever been hugged like that) so he couldn't see her in his periphery. I don't care if he has a kid. kid wasn't anywhere near there.
Dobster
Careful guys, you're taking the anti populist view. You must always remember, if empathising with the person expressing negative emotion isn't part of the popular narrative, then you are wrong. Every time.
bottledham
And if you empathize, you're obviously condoning their bad behavior.
GingerLaird
Good... Now use the bat to give that Karen surprise knee surgery.
ttm2
to downvoters: it's for her own good! you see, if she's stuck home recovering, she won't be able to make a mess of herself in public, so we are just doing her a favour!
GingerLaird
Nah, the downvoting is fair. But, if she's handicapped, she could be on the receiving end of the same treatment.
ttm2
it was sarcasm; for conservatives like that, punishing others is actually doing them a favour

https://www.facebook.com/reel/2031993060872338 this shows the guy running several seats down to grab the ball in front of the Karen. Still her fault. It's a kid.
FreePalestineAndTheWorldFromIsrael
In that context, I can understand why she'd be upset. Clearly came closer to her. The father shouldnt have tried to run all the way there to take it from her. So if anything, he's the asshole. That being said, its just a fucking ball...god americans are so self-unaware sometimes.
SquirtVonnegut

MarkusAwesomesauce
He got it for his kid. This is gonna get you downvoted to the abyss. It's always the kid's ball at a baseball game. The game is made for kids. What is a 60 year old woman gonna do with a baseball? That kid will have had that ball for a lifetime. One day when he's old, he could have looked at that ball and had a fond memory of his dad. Instead this old woman took it from him.
MrMetaThesis
I'd be pretty pissed if some one took it out of my hands too.
MarkusAwesomesauce
For clarity, the woman never touched the baseball. It landed by empty seats. The women was sitting behind that row and the guy and his kid were maybe 10 seats down on the row the ball landed on. He ran over unobstructed and got the ball. The woman was not fast enough.
davemUnderscoreOr
Didn't dad take it from her? Someone should post the earlier video of them fighting for the ball.
Howlingowl
The ball landed in the bleachers where no one was sitting and he came out of the scramble with it. The Karen bitch is acting like she caught it and he walked up and stole it from her glove.
TheLookAndFeelMUSIC

Still not clear. Ball wasn't visible.
paeches
due to his following actions, it looks like maybe she didn't have a great hold on it, and unlike the other men, he took the opportunity. he immediately fully turns his back to her and starts over-acting directly at his family. awkwardly hugging the kid and closing his eyes so he can be "surprised" when she confronts him. when you KNOW he knows she's been on his heels. the kid looks weirded out from when he comes into frame after the ball acquisition all the way to the tunnel getting the bat.
msfeatherbottom
Holy shit he’s such a fraud, thank you for posting this video

Assumes facts not in evidence. You don't know what she was going to do with the ball. Motive is not a basis for legal rulings.

You act as if it's a flex to have fans in the Marlins stadium. The Marlins may be the worst attended MLB team in the league.
Badprenup
Actually based on how you worded that it kinda *does* sound like a flex. If the stadium was filled (per their comment) and there aren't enough Marlin fans to give their own stadium decent attendance (your comment), then that means that Philly has enough fans who are willing to pay for and travel to fill the bulk of a different team's stadium.
That's pretty impressive loyalty
