Trump said he would do this

No FEMA help, sorry thems the rules now.

on July 3rd national weather service told us there would be about 8 inches of rain...for some reason I got sick and didn't go out there for holiday
RainierCamino
Well that's fucking horrible
FairfaxJack
Saw a Facebook thread about this tragedy and was appalled at the number of idiots quite literally offering thoughts and prayer. There were photos of each of the little girls confirmed dead and some idiot woman wrote "praying to Jesus to the souls of this angel" or some stupid shit like that. But I can guarantee that she also believes that climate change is false, NOAA and the NWS are lying and that FEMA was created to round up Christians or some other batshit crazy nonsense like that
djangojazz
I'm sure it's liberals fault somehow.
bullshirtdetectorinspector
They voted for this. Grieve for the innocent children who did not.
DriverIRQnotlessOrEqual
Good thing the national weather service has been defunded, if there are no warnings there are no disasters right?
armagetz
Except there was a watch, warning, and emergency bulletin all put out.
DrLOAC
My neighbor is one of the missing. He was RVing with his wife near the Guadalupe. Called 911 from a tree. His son got hold of him - said he was stuck in a tree didn’t know where his wife was and had to go.
She was rescued later in the day badly battered by a helicopter.
He hasn’t been found.
JCstormz
Hope the parents find an angle to sue DOGE/Musk for this
rolliefingers
Maybe the ol "our emergency services were taken away" angle
LitterBoxKing
Instead, they're blaming the NWS.
ronin1031
America is getting the country they voted for
billymaditsdone
I think God is trying to reach the people of Texas
colderfish
There's already Republicans insisting it was all faked
AnnieGoolahee
It's now 14 children, 18 adults, and still 27 missing. Other counties are impacted with numerous flood deaths. We've been told to stay off the roads and conserve water use.
It's heartbreaking and frustrating to watch. We used to get warnings WELL before storms started. Now they still come, but hours after storms have already been raging. AFTER damage is done.
charondaboatman
River rose 26 feet in 45 minutes.
Trimule
Net news report said a normal 3' deep river went to 32'. Surrounding areas were hit with monsoon levels of rain. Creeks and valleys washed down many small tributaries to the river.
Wolfshead009
Quick math calls that 7 inches every minute. (almost 18 cm) Yikes.
ThisNameIsMaybeTaken
Slow math calls that 6.9333 (repeating, of course) inches per minute. 17.610666 (yes, repeating) cm per minute.
Yikes confirmed.
dbox
Intuitive calculus says rate of change would be less at the start and end, so it might be over a 12 inches a minute during the worst.
Yikes eacalated.

Time lapse: holy shit.

The cult will accept Obama as the culprit.
SecretAgentSuperBooger
The real question is what will his final body count be this time around?
mksu
I don't even want to speak the number I think will be realistic if things continue on their current trajectory uninterrupted.

Also brought to you by the party of the sound of children screaming has been removed.

This. The GQP is a death cult and they want these people to die.

Floods allow victims to be found?
Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas vowed in a news conference on Saturday that rescuers would find every person missing after the flood, even as he cautioned that it could take some time. “We will be relentless,” he said. “We’re not going to stop today or tomorrow. We’re going to stop when the job is completed.”

They have no or few communications devices in this camp which is making getting help to them difficult from reports.
ScootyPuffSr
AT&T & TMobile have 5G coverage to the camp, Verizon has 4G and I would expect the counselors to have phones to call an ambulance - if they didn't, well then, that needs to be fixed. For advance warning, the camp should have strong signal from a 1000 watt NOAA Weather Radio transmitter 8 miles east in Kerrville, and a $30 receiver would have screamed like a fire alarm for severe weather warnings (assuming a warning was issued? but the tower is online at least)
johnvilnis
From reports it was a Christian retreat where they didn’t want outside interference from technology so allegedly no phones, etc.
ScootyPuffSr
I don't mean to say they deserved what they got - nobody does - but if that's true, they did make choices, then, and the results followed.
sldunnph3
Abbott has no money left for his own ppl after shipping immigrants to sanctuary cities
sldunnph3
Also for electricity when it really heats up
crapybarra
Floods hapoen in TX. Especially flash floods. The federal impact will be felt with regard to what the response is should the state requests support and assistance from the Gov.
Trimule
Apparently there was a very similar but not as deadly event in the same area in 1989(?).
InsertUnimaginativeUsernameHere
Yeah, Trump is using FEMA funds for his concentration camps instead of for disaster relief (other states have had disasters and already asked for funds and got crickets for a response).
crapybarra
But they don't fucking learn. I wish them every inch of unlubed dildo of consequences they voted for.

Texas is a red state, so Trump will take care of them one way or another

So when is he sending in the marines to assist with recovery?
myotheralt
The same nws that they just gutted including the very satellite monitoring this region.
ElbowDeepInAHeadlessHorseman
NWS issued flash food watches, flash flood warnings, and a flash flood emergency all for this storm. Local officials didn't take action in response to those warnings and now they're trying to make excuses.
devasto
TheMightyMollusk
It only counts as a lesson if they actually learn from it. Otherwise it's just a tragedy.
bourbonandbaddecisions
At this point it’s just another statistic.
mercyPandaRunner
Didn't they just defund the NWS and fired personnel via that "DOGE" bullshit?
PleaseNotTheFace
They did, but thos storm also didn't behave as they thought it would, from what I've seen. More people wouldn't have changed the outcome.
mercyPandaRunner
With something as complex as weather, telling how it will behave in the future is bound to leave uncertainties. Are they now blaming the Meteorologists for not doing literal magic?
PleaseNotTheFace
Unfortunately it seems people need to blame someone. Things can't happen which are out of our control. Someone needs to be held accountable. Yes, things can usually be done better, but sometimes, things just happen which nobody can predict or stop.
mercyPandaRunner
If only they had the same approach to politics they have to weather and the same approach to weather they have to politics
Mommyshiba
This has happened before. In this area. WHY are the children's camps STILL HERE??
spontaneous9
Riverbottom land is CHEAP. That's why they put stuff like state parks and summer camps there.
POTUSBrown
Hasn't been a flood like this in 30 years, and it wasn't as bad. People have short memories.
spontaneous9
FEMA is for afterward.
This could have been avoided if DOGE hadn't defunded NOAA (National Oceanographic Aerospace Administration), whose weather event prediction satellites were taken offline.
Ninjainslippers
If we're really going root cause analysis, decades of insufficient climate change solutions is at the base. This may have been predicted or maybe not but extreme weather events are more frequent and more severe, and we're all complicit. Trump/DOGE defunding agencies is just an extra fuck you to anyone without a private helicopter to fly them out.
spontaneous9
The riverbeds and floodplains are for the poors.
Rich people live on high ground.
ButtersTheCat
FEMA's not coming though. They've been ghosting major disasters across the country, since Trump took office.
spontaneous9
"So much winning. You're gonna get tired of all the winning, believe me folks."
- an anonymous presidential candidate
ButtersTheCat
What's really sad is seeing a bunch of comments from people who bought into the propaganda that FEMA "didn't do anything", parroting that sentiment in comments. I know from personal experience that FEMA used to be a lifesaver after catastrophic storms. Now it can't, and people who never used it before think it's always been that way.
ElbowDeepInAHeadlessHorseman
NWS issued flash flood watch, warning, and emergency for this storm. This wasn't due to defunding of national weather services, it was due to some other fuck up in Republican local government.
TalkingSnake
Fun fact: all the weather apps and device info we see everyday, is actually courtesy of NOAO. Yes, even the weather apps that people pay for.

Don't kink shame the lord! You try existing forever and still find a way to get your rocks off.

He loves that shit. That’s why elementary kids get slaughtered at Uvalde and Sandy Hook.
ButtersTheCat
Hey quick question: when exactly did you lose your humanity?
Mehtoes
Probably the point they blamed the gays and drag queens for everything?! So jog on prick!!
ButtersTheCat
If you think you're still better than them, I have bad news for you: you're not. You can either take the moral high ground, or stoop to their level, but you can't be in two places at once.
But if you think that it's really in good taste to use the deaths of innocent people in a natural disaster, as an opportunity to gloat about religion, then you do you. I'm sure your intended point doesn't make you sound like an asshole at all.
Comet260
JOG. ON.
Mehtoes
IHaveGreatKittenRecipes
Not only that but stooping down still puts you on higher ground in comparison to these mouth breathing trogdolytes, so even their moral bullshit falls flat.
darkdragonempress
As a Roman Catholic, nah they are very much allowed to be saying this stuff. Too many fuckers used religion as an excuse for all the horrific shit we are seeing right now. So if someone wants to mock us over it, they should be able to. I’m still far more pissed about my faith being used as an excuse to deny people rights.
ButtersTheCat
Frame it however you like. But it's still a double standard to say that Republicans/Evangelicals are wrong for saying that "God is punishing (some blue state) with a natural disaster", but it's okay for you to say it mockingly, because they did. It's still hateful, and it says a lot about your character, just like it does theirs.
You're either better than them, or you're not. There aren't any exceptions.
